My supra is a gas guzzler help please!!
every like 2 or 3 days i need to put gas in my 88 supra, i dont drive far or much maybe less then 50-100 miles a day. I went to walmart to check out some fuel injector cleaners or engine cleaners maybe that could be the problem, and last night my older brother said that maybe vaccuming the engine would probably help the gas milage. What can i do?

Check the O2 sensor to see if its good. A bad O2 sensor will give u bad gas mileage.
|
turbo or n/a ?
you should check to see if you are generating any error codes vacuuming the engine , i don't know, but checking the vacuum lines should be done |
how do i check the O2 sensor? and where is it?
|
Where is O2 sensor
Bolts onto exhaust manifold. Kinda looks like a spark plug, has wire coming off that clips in. Very easy to change and will give better mileage, also cleans up emissions.

ok thanks i'll check it out when it stops raining

next time you get a full tank of gas use a stp fuel injector cleaner, might seem like nothing but it makes a big diffrence
change your oil, use high millage 10w30 new spark plugs new plug wires clean your intake your tire presure your 02 sensor small things like this makes sum big diffrence especially how we deal with gas right now what i do tho when i change my oil , i use that liquid that they use for oil flushing only i do it ghetto, i found a good use for my leafblower everytime i change my oil, i flush it with the liquid and i hook up the leafblower to a gardenhose, and stick it to the top of the engine where you put your oil you'll be suprised how much is left there by jus changing your oil the traditional way |
First, CHECK YOUR ACTUAL GAS MILEAGE!!!
I have a 1988 Turbo I bought new in late 1987. (68k original miles so far) A stock gas tank is 18.5 gal. Original claim on sticker is 18mpg city, 23mpg hwy. I have always averaged 20mpg since day 1. That's about 330 miles before my yellow 'low fuel' light comes on. (18.5 @ 20mpg = 370 miles) So if you drive 100 miles/day in 3 days your gettin' pretty low under good conditions. By figuring out your actual mileage NOW before troubleshooting you may realize your not that bad (for a stock Supra). Also it will give you a more accurate benchmark so you can tell if or how much improvement you get by chasing some of the suggestions made by others in this forum. We all feel like our mileage sucks now, based on dollar amounts at the pump, but forget that and get the mpg facts. If your around 20mpg your good. Also, keep in mind driving habits like running the air conditioner all the time, heavy on the accelerator, quick starts, lots of idle time, all effect mileage too. |
i only use my A/C when its really hot but i mostly drive with the windows down, i always accelerate slow. i'll get that in mind thanks
