i need som serious info about this topic. me and my coworker have been debating for the past two days about which is better. a single turbo or a twin turbo. my personal opinion is that a single turbo is better. and he always says that a twin turbo is better. if i could get actual reasons which would be better please let me know thanks.

single turbo slower but less lag
twin turbo faster but more lag
its about balance

depends on the size of the turbo/s that you will be running. a driveable (not HP monster/drag) car running twins will come onto boost a lot quicker than a bigger single due to having to spin up less mass. but then of course you can also get into custom sized exhaust housings to accelerate the exhaust gasses so the bigger turbo spools better, but then becomes a restriction in high rev ranges (though probably not a big restriction). a good comparison is between the 1jz and 7m. motor differences aside, the ct12a's spool a lot better than the ct26 on the 7m, getting the car onto boost sooner, which gives the 1jz a deceptive feel to the power delivery due to it being smooth. where as the ct26 takes a bit longer to spool, and when it does, it snaps onto boost, giving more of a feel of acceleration due to more force of suddenly coming on.

a lot of the time the reason people convert to single turbo is simplicity of plumbing. with a single turbo setup, you have more room to put things just where you want them, whereas with a twin setup, things get cramped up real quick.

hope that helps.

that is true. but for MKIV luvers its gonna be twin

 fallen... please let us enlighten the public as to what mk4 owners generally put on their cars when upgrading the turbo ;)

two big twins, HP monster, but not very driveable, big single, better spool than the big twins, but not as high power delivery due to turbo restricting (not unless your pulling big power though). twin medium turbo's, not as big HP, but better drivability.

depends on what you want.

once again, plumbing for a biggish single turbo is a lot easier than two twins. if designing twin turbo setup, you need to build the manifolds to mount two turbos, not much room, so design will be a problem. then you have to find room to fir twin external wastegates, then you have water and oil feeds, returns, intake pipes to the turbo, intake from the turbo, exhaust away from the turbo.

hope this helps.

btw, 8/10 turbo upgrades in america are single turbo conversions, japanese are more common to doing twins.
