the little yellow box on my 88 supra wont work and the dealer want $142 , where can i find one online cheap. i have looked around in junk yards and can't find one.

Also, where exactly is my fuel filter located?

sorry i dont know where a replacement can be found, is it your brake lights not working or just your rear lights as when my box failed my brake lights still worked fine, it just knocked out my rear lights and there is a free way around that

i had the same prob its a little button that turn them on when you press the pedal its stupid how it works when you press the pedal it releases the button when you let off the pedal it pushes back in its located in the back of the pedal

suprra_girl 03-14-2005 07:24 AM

^ i would agree.... the switch located on the brake pedal may not be making contact with the pedal hence the lights not working

do you have a light on your dash saying you have brake lights out, if you don't then i would say it is the brake pedal switch that needs adjusting :)

targattgirl 03-16-2005 06:32 AM

yeah make sure the brake switch at the pedal is operating correctly.
I had to fix some cars with the same problem. there's supposed to be a rubber groomet thing that pushes the brake switch when you push on the pedal. sometimes the rubber piece falls off, so make sure when you push the pedal, you are pressing the swich all the way down too.

did you check the basic stuff like your bulbs? check if you are getting power to the bulbs? check the fuse?

suprra_girl 03-16-2005 08:27 AM

with mk3 supras the brake pedal works opposite to what the cars you have worked on previously....
when the pedal is released it pushes the switch which turns off the lights, when pressed the switch is released and brake lights turn on :)

sounds like you got some good info to offer here targa girl.. welcome ;)

targattgirl 03-17-2005 05:41 AM

so the lights are on when the pedal is not pressed? just kidding

you are partially right. I didn't really want to get into details, but here
I am assuming you are talking about normally closed switch Vs. normally open switch
so the switch either grounds or provides the power
you have 2 kinds of brake light switches.
one where the switch provides power to the circuit and then it grounds via the light bulbs
then there is the kind that provides a ground to the light bulbs to turn them on
most imports that i deal with have normally closed switch.
anyways im not trying to argue with you but yeah maybe mk3 do have open switch? I dont really remember i barely see mk3 in our shop. in fact theres one black mk3turbo sitting in the stall for valve adj..i think
who's black mk3 is it~? :P
