Turbo dropping problem!

It's me again. I think I have too much questions but I am new to the supra...
It is a sweet car but I currently don't know anything about. I want to keep a good maintenance and if possible restore mine to new condition.

My supra is a auto. When I accelerate the turbo kicks in fully at about 3000rpm (as of any turbo cars would). But as soon as I keep the speed and not accelerate anymore , maintaining at 3000rpm+, the turbo drops. Is that normal or is there something wrong?

Hope someone can help. Not only I am new to the Supra but I am new to turbo charged vehicle also.

I love this car. I want to learn as much as I can about it so I can restore it to show it's glorry again. And I know this site would be a great help. Thanks guys!

Yes, that is normal. The turbo boost pressure will increase a second or two after you mash the throttle...stay up for a few seconds...then drop back down.

(I have an '88 Turbo I have owned since late 1987...turbo boost has been that way since day 1. I also have a 2005 Subaru Legacy 2.5 turbo...same thing)

Thanks for the reply...sorry if I sound kinna stupid there. But first time turbo owner... I have never sat in or driven a turbo car before that. Not that much of my friends are fans of turbos....(all V-tech fans if you know what I mean?)

turbos only worrk at or near full throttle, tell those honda boys that your shit is fine

yep, it's perfectly normal :)

the boost will get up there when you first mash it and then with an auto it should hold or it may drop a little with stock parts :)

***suprra_girl***

I don't know if it is a stock turbo. It says toyota on the turbo but the guy who sold it to me said he got a different turbo that give the car more boost. But the thing is...after the boost, the turbo meter drops entirely. Back to -2. Doesn't even hold. Just drops as soon as I ease off on the gas. It is still normal???

suprra_girl 06-13-2006 11:28 PM

if you are letting off the gas of course the car won't continue to hold boost ;)

it's fine... :)

if you are at part throttle there is seldom enough load to create boost, its fine stop worrying
