transmission problem
driving from a stop you feel it go through the gears ( if you really listen, its damn smooth ) and get to 90km at about 3.5 - 4 grand ? then pop it in o/d. what it does is drop back by about a grand, and then another after a second or so, so it sits on about 2,000 rpm.
L on my shift only works first ( not 1 then 2, as i understand they are supposed to do ), 2 is actually second so D would be third with the o/d button clicking in fourth and then locking that and third together to give an over - drive. although this is fun when you want to take a spin around the block as i don't need to lock it into L and then try to kick-down it around the corner ... does anybody else have a similar problem or know if it's less than normal ? mkiii 86.5 automatic 3.0L with turbo and intercooler. lights tires like matches. ps to be honest, i don't know if gaining the ability to select a fourth gear is worth losing that driftability ... |
I'm not really following you.
'L' position is 1st gear only. '2' position starts off in 1st, then upshifts to 2nd, and holds. 'D' starts in 1st, goes to 2nd, then to 3rd, and holds 3rd with O D button off. 'D' with O D botton on will allow it into overdrive after 40mph. The OD is actually another gear, not locking 3rd to anything. The 'lockup' torque converter locks up with light throttle position in OD. If you are cruising along in OD, if you step on the gas, like to speed up to 65mph, the torque converter unlocks, and the RPMs go up about 400 more. In other words, the lockup = about 400 rpm. The cable on the throttle has adjustment proceedures in the TSRM. It is a pressure adjustment, and tells the trans to up/down shift depending on the throttle opening. |
k. was under the impression that L was supposed to work first, then second. 4 speed auto that locks 4 & 3 for overdrive.
... so its a 4 gear auto with a lockup that drops your revs by 400 when you're cruising. thnx. now i wont add any more posts to this thread, cos then it'll just drop off the edge of the world into the wastebasket like all dumb questions are supposed to |
