Oil around the spark plugs!!!

I have oil around the spark plugs, and I was messing with it today trying to bolt back down the thing on top of the head with all the wires and suddenly it won't start now. It does everything but roll over. The starting sounds the same, but just can't get it to roll over. I was thinking about just cleaning out the area around the spark plugs and seeing if that works. But not sure how the oil got there. I think it's due to the bhg, but I am think it's more like the valve cover gasket? Any idea on how to fix my situation?

The answer is out there

Ok t-boy. You've been here long enough now, so....here is the answer to this, and many more questions you'll have...

In the General Questions section, and the other sections too, over to the right, in a blue bar, you will find different links. Click the one that says 'search'. Then type in some of the words of your question, and click 'enter'.
Several threads will come up that pertain to those words.

I did...'oil spark plug'...and this came up.

this method will usually get you answers faster than asking in a new thread, because most of the problems have already happened to members, and the answers are posted in some thread on this site.

Now when you say it 'rolls over', do you mean it cranks, but won't start??

yes, that is what I mean, and you are right. I'll start using that search tool. Sorry bout' that.

If there is a bunch of oil down those sparkplug boot holes, it can ground out the spark, thus not let the plug fire.

I took some old pillow cases (because they are thin material) an a screwdriver and 'mopped' up the oil. That way it all did not go into the cylinder when i removed the plugs.

A new set of wires is about $100 at carquest. You may just need to remove them and clean them with brake cleaner spray.

VC gaskets is why oil gets in the holes. The center gasket is a dealer item for approx $40. it is not mandatory that you replace it, as it is there to keep debri out.

You may have just saved my life, thank you very much. If we were drunk, I would simply say, "I love you man". But we aren't, so a simple thanks in order. A bIG thanks.

ok, I just got through cleaning the valey out and around the spark plugs, I couldn't take the plugs out because I don't have extention I need. But the car still won't start. Same thing, cranks ok, but won't start up. So I'll get the extention tomarrow and pull em' out and clean em' up. But if this doesn't work, could there be anything else. I mean this just happened over night, so I don't think it's the timing. Any clues?

i think you just pulled the wiring from coil packs
check that

mrnickleye 01-28-2006 10:22 PM

You need to pull one plug wire off a plug, then stick a screwdriver in the end and hold the screwdriver shaft about 1/4" away from some metal on engine. Have someone crank the engine and see if there is spark jumping to ground. Yes? then you have spark.
No? then you have an ignition problem.

Yes, spark, then you may have a fuel delivery problem. If so, then the test procedures are in the TSRM, but you may need professional help.

no, I have taken the coil packs off twice to clean the valey and the area around the spark plug. And I have check all the connecting wires and nothing is disconected. I wish it were that easy...trust me. Good new though, I am learning about my car! Experience is COOL. MRNICKLEYE, thanks alot for your help, I will try your idea tomarrow at the butt crack of dawn. Here's hoping!:o

Success!!!! She started today with alot of oil-burnt smoke coming out of the rear, she purred furiously.

I cleaned the valey, the spark plug holes, and cleaned the spark plugs with engine degreaser. Put everything back together and vuala! Thanks for all the help MRNICKLEYE.
