it will be in "vacuum" at idle... usually about -20ish on a good engine

burping

Make sure heater water valve is open. I would by-pass the vsv for this

Not too hot engine. Heater controls in max hot, with fan on low setting.

Using ramps, or jackstands, Raise the front of car as high as possible (I went 3 feet on mine, till the exhaust pipe tip was almost touching the ground).

Remove cap and drain off (at drain plug into pan) coolant until you can see the radiator core inside cap area. Tighten drain plug. Start engine and let idle for about 20 min. until nice and warm.
You can raise the idle up to about 1000rpm to make the water flow better.
***Note...Don't rev the engine, as it will cause the coolant to shoot out like a whale spout***

The trapped air will be forced out because doing this proceedure makes the core lower than the radiator cap.

Shut off engine, pour drained coolant back into radiator, install cap (new prefered). Lower car. Fill overflow bottle 1/2 way. Test drive.

No more waterfall sound ? Good !

I had to do mine 2x to get it all out. Next day, Check and fill 1/2 way the bottle, as the removed air will be replaced by coolant, so bottle may be low.

think you suprra_girl
i was getting thinkin that was a bad thing
caus most turbocharged cars will stay at 0psi

btw sorry for jacking this thred for a lil wile

most of your turbo cars have vacuum leaks then ;)

usually -18 to -22 is normal
if it shows -10 then you have vacuum leaks (more than likely straight of the intake manifold) or (happened to me) bhg... altho that's not common i don't think
mine was surging hardcore like it had a major boost leak

here's some good info from www.cygnusx1.net

well on the gauge on the one im getting goes from -4 to +8psi

and at idal it always says -4.
is this right or is there somthing rong like a leak or somthing?

TxSpeedBoy 01-10-2006 05:26 PM

yea, mine has the same boost reading and I am wondering the same thing.

j3pz 01-10-2006 07:11 PM

here something to think about. a turbo runs off of exhaust and when the car is started, no exhaust yet but the engine needs air to run. so the engine will suck in air creating a vaccum, thus reading neg boost. once its running and pushing out exhaust making the turbo spin, the gauge will read positive pressure

TxSpeedBoy 01-10-2006 09:40 PM

well, what about when the car is reved up? My trubo guage does not read uno matter how long you hold the gas down. It only reads when I am going.

Isphius 01-10-2006 10:11 PM

pretty much any turbo car should be pulling vaccum at idle...even cruising at low rpms. ive never ridden in a turbo supra but in a grand national it would hardly get to boost...unless he hit the gas kinda hard. would get to about 0 at normal aceleration. and vaccum while cruising. My car also has that waterfall sound...im guessing thats air trapped in the heater core?

suprra_girl 01-11-2006 12:30 AM

ahh there's one thing i forgot... what measurement is your vacuum gauge in?

and yes.. burp your car too ;)

TxSpeedBoy 01-12-2006 03:27 AM

The boost guage reads negitive 4, then 0, then a midway line, then +8. That's it. I tried to figure out how to post a pic, but having trouble.
