brake light and fluids

A fairly quick thing -
driving to work today the 'brake' light on the dash was lit, which of course concerned me.

The brakes seem to work fine, so now i'm wondering what might be the cause, if the light was a false alarm, if there could be a leak, or i just need to add some fluids.

And of course this time of year is the worst to have brake problems.

Any ideas would help.

I'm going to move this to the non generation specific forum as this post doesn't state what year or generation the car is.

Most likely the brake fluid level has fallen below the minimum level, triggering the light to turn on in the gauge cluster. The change in level could be from seepage or a leak, it would be best to investigate further to ensure you don't have the beginning stages of a safety issue.
