ecconomy

ok i know that's a new word to most supra owners, but try to follow me here. umm ... about 260k on a full-ish tank of 96. that's around town and from home to work, mostly cold starting and frequent stops. before the head gasket it did about 450k on less than half a tank havn't taken it on a decent trip that doesn't involve massive hills and twisty roads.

what do you guys get out of yours ?

supra_91 10-13-2005 09:33 PM

i go 275 miles on about 14 gallons.....about 19 to 20mpg

suprra_girl 10-14-2005 12:47 AM

wow you are going thru some petrol

going by the usage on ours we get 8.9k to a litre, so working on our 70l capacity we should get 600 odd km out of a tank (granny driving) like no boost, no more than 10mm depression on the pedal LOL

have you done a diagnostic?
is your 02 sensor plugged in?

mrnickleye 10-14-2005 01:08 AM

I keep a close watch on my mpg. I get 15 city, 20 hwy, a/c on. Runs perfect (I mean like new off showroom), new everything. Was getting 17 - 22 before HG was done.

heh yea i get a few fault codes every time i check. o2 sensor ... hope so. ill check, always get 51 as a fault code. might check for others tomorow. also think i have a leak in my vaccum systemwhat with all the old hardened and cracked pipes in there. another job for tomorrow. might spray paint WIP on the spot where i usually park my car at work ...

but that's not actually " bad. "
" bad " is when you fill your car up with $60, drive to work and back a few days during the week and get 88 km out of half a tank ( yea that's right. it used to be worse. try 190 ks ? ). now take that same car, with the half tank of gas remaining, and go to christchurch. drive round, race, have fun. 400 km out of that half tank and it was still above empty when i filled it up.
that was pre-bhg, and it kinda floored me. long high speed roads i guess. gonna take it up to christchurch some time soon and see what happens.

suprra_girl 10-14-2005 09:51 AM

check out your tps that's code 51 i believe

fix all boost leaks
that will use more fuel

and are you sure you arent actually leaking fuel?

SupraMan1784 10-14-2005 01:52 PM

i get around 22mpg highway...16 city...but then again i have a 2.5L..but thats when i put the boost way down...and i roll speed limit or lower..which actually has been the case the past few days...havent driven hard in a while..probably drift in the rain this weekend...yaayy

lethalwithasupra 10-16-2005 04:44 AM

o2 was unplugged. know when i did it too - there was this huge leak under the turbo pipe where i had left this tiny hose off, had ta take a few things out of the way to put it back.

im gna do an ecconomy run. first of 10 bars on my cool digital dash went out at 50 kms. looking good

suprra_girl 10-17-2005 12:18 PM

ah hah

boost leak = running rich
unplugged 02 = running richer again

we found that by unplugging the 02 sensor it actually made the car run richer by a whole point
i.e. normal air fuel ratio is 14.7
with 02 unplugged it was now 13.0 :o

would definitely start going thru fuel hehe

roadtalontsi 10-18-2005 10:32 PM

what do you guys typically get on the highway. I realize milage, mods, and tunes are going to cause a big variance. Like if you were cruising 80 (what rpm are you seeing) in a mach IV for an hr what would you expect like 27mpg? or is that being un realistic
