Was there ever just a single turbo supra every built.
Total newb question but, I was wondering if there was ever just a single turbo supra ever made? Because I thought there was only the non turbo edition of the twin turbo edition but I see some supras on the internet net that are single turbo and I wondered if they possibly had to a non turbo to turbo kit installed on them?
Thanks |
you must be referring to the MKIV supra's. those were either twin turbo 2JZGTE or N/A 2JZGE. there were single turbo supra's made from 86.5-92, the MKIII supra's. They had the 7MGTE engine. most people who mod their MKIV usually go with a single turbo set-up though, thats what you are seeing i would imagine. they are able to spool up faster with a single turbo setup rather than twin turbo set up.
plus the plumbing for a twin turbo is quite confusing in my mind, lol. it looks like a maze of vacuum, intake, exhaust and wires to me. |
How quickly a turbo or twin turbo setup depends on a number of factors. A sequential setup on a twin system will get up and go very quickly... Nonetheless, it is very popular to convert a dual setup for a "Big Single" setup which offers spool that's still quick but also has more room up top and greater efficiency.
There were also the 1JZ-GTE and 1G-GTE MKIIIs which were both twin turbo setups. The 1G-GTE is a rare find (even in Japan which is the only market they were sold in) and not many people know of it or are familiar with the specs. It's a 2.0l inline 6.... kind of an odd bird. |
