School me!!!

Ok guys/girls ...I need you to school me in supra/lexus drivetrains. I'm in the process of a major project that will be using a supra/lexus drivetrain. I need to know what set up I should choose. This is going to be a drag car...so i'm not really considering convenience. Is the 5 spd or 6spd transmission better. Which tranny has the better gear ratio for drag. Is there a large difference in strength between the turbod and nonturbod trannys? I also need to know the year of the cars I can get the transmission you suggest out of.

I need the same schooling regarding the rearend. Which one is best/strongest. Does it come with an lsd? Once I get this rear end what lsd or spool do you recommend? Keep in mind I dont care what yeart supra or lexas..it could be a 2nd gen or 3rd gen. I need more than one option from best to worst for the transmission and rear end.

Last but not least...what problems to look out for with the drivetrain given.

You guys will be a big help if you could answer these questions.

Please no flamers.....and questions are welcomed.

horsepower goal will be 500-700 horspower. Depends what gets me to 10's. The link you gave me did not help..it just tells me how to work on the tranny instead of answering my questions. Motor doesn't matter..all adapter plates are being fabricated to except the tranny and flywheel. Partial tub chassy being built for rear end and suspension components.

guessing that ur using a supra powerplant, the r154 5spd tranny is near bullitproof. you would need the 1jz adapter housing to fit onto the 2jz engine. as for the rear end, i'd use a ford 9". parts are more readily available for drag use. on supra rear ends, the only have lsd's. for drag, your going to need a spool.

Don't matter which year? Well, the MkIV Turbo Supras are damn near bombproof with a manual tranny. The bottom end of the engine is good for 800hp. The Getrag 6-speed is good for well over 1000hp, as long as you don't miss a shift. The rest of the drivetrain is just as strong, if not stronger. All Turbo Supras come with a LSD. Only weak link is the clutch which will need to be upgraded as power increases.

SC300 is a MkIV Supra in disguise, and a hell of a lot cheaper. Only downside is it doesn't have turbos (or the turbo block, though the head is supposedly better), and the tranny is usually an auto, you'll want a stick, and they did come with a 5-speed like the N/A Supras, but it's not nearly as strong as the 6-speed.

Basicly anything you can get a 2JZ in will be fast... even a house will fly with enough thrust and pushing a lot of HP out of a 2JZ is getting easier...

the hard part about finding an sc300 in stick is that...out of the thousands made from teh factory...only 300 of them were stick....these cars are hard to find...i been looking for a while...im waitin for two friends to sell theirs...but they wont anytime soon...one got his turboed....its fast
