building a 280z and cant decide between 1jz or 2jz

which motor will make around 480 hp the cheapest? id like it to be N/A but if that will cost alot more than a single or twin turbo set up ill go turbo. suggestions?

I'm not entirely sure you can get that much without at least one turbo. 2jz would be easier to get mods for, I'd think. IIRC the two aren't that far apart in price, either, but I could be wrong on that part. Regardless, most of the 1jzs and 2jzs come with turbos.
1JZ-GE Engine: 200 HP, 185 ft-lbf
1JZ-GTE Engine: 280 HP, 268 ft-lbf

2JZ-GE Engine: 220 HP, 209-220 ft-lbf
2JZ-GTE Engine: 276 HP, 320 ft-lbf

(Sources Wikipedia)

I'm not entirely sure about that, but it's at least fairly close. I'm currently saving for a 2jz-gte myself. :D

If you're talking 480hp to the crank, then a stock 2jz-gte with stock turbos can make that power level (BPU+++, raised boost, race fuel). I believe this will be cheaper than trying to get that much power out of an n/a, which will require an aftermarket turbo kit or a huge shot of nos.

Dont think either will give you anywhere near 480 whp with N/A. And.. that amount of power "cheaply"? Can be done if your handy with tools and know what your doing.. but the tune is going to dictate success...

I shudder when people talk about anything above 350 HP and use the words.. "cheaply"...

Agreed - take too many shortcuts and the result is melted, twisted, expensive engine parts (or worse)...which ends up much more expensive in the long run than doing it right in the first place. It's a lesson that some guys have to go through the hard way though.
