I am new to Supra's but just bought a 1990 N/A Supra with a blown head gasket. I replaced the gasket myself without much trouble and the car is running well. I have been looking for upgrades to the suspension and keep seeing strut support bars for the front and rear struts. I have the targa top. But I have TEMS and keep seeing things that indicate I may have trouble finding a strut support that will fit my TEMS suspension. I would love some advice about TEMS in general and suggestions for suspension modifications. Thanks

hey :) welcome to the forum

to get a strut bar for tems you can find one on ebay... you will have to remove the steel covers that are over the tems... unless you can fabricate up something to fit over that as well... ;)
most supra owners just take off the covers as the actual tems units aren't very large :)
good luck in upgrading ur suspension ;)

Thanks for the quick response. I still would like to find some good information on the TEMS system. I'm not sure mine is working properly. It definitely changes the way the car rides, but I still like to understand exactly what is transpiring. I would also like some information on lowering springs and replacement struts. I have seed alot of different types. I'm not looking to spend the maximum amount on these. I won't be driving this car as hard as maybe others would. I really like the yellow color of your car. Exactly what yellow color is that?

I did see some of those strut supports on EBAY. I don't think I saw any rear supports? Thanks again.

hehe adjustable price too i bet... :P

some people change to coilovers... some change to just the normal supra shocks (non tems) others just buy replacement tems (Tokico Illumina II i believe)
tems activates on hard cornering, hard braking & high speed... you can adjust to normal & sport... the only time you will see complete firm mode is when some of the previous happens...
i'm not sure of the sources in the US for lowering springs but i have seen alot of supra ppl mention Eibach (sp?)
the rear struts do exist... but hmmm dunno where hehe... maybe they also come up on ebay... just patience and looking i would think ;)

Thanks Jester.

Actually not a bad price for the struts. I have seen lowering springs for less. Suprra_girl. I'm not sure if I really need the TEMS system. Like you mentioned, I could replace the struts and disable the TEMS system. I like the way the MKIII looks lowered and people seem to think it helps with handling. If anyone has experience with lowering the MKIII and the changes to handling, I would love to hear some input. Thanks for all the help.

well i've got my springs lowered 50mm and with good shocks handles like a dream... altho useability is a bit ruff on driveways lol
to disable tems just buy normal shocks and remove the tems controllers and put em in a corner ;)

technically, if you lower your car you have a lower center of gravity, which allows for beter handling

if you are looking for supra stuff suspension and other stuff go here ---> http://www.robearracing.com/search1.cfm?Se...arch_Term=supra
