I've heard some ppl talkin bout swappin out their MKIII engines for big Chevy V8's and sh**. This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Is it me, or if you put a Chevy engine in a Supra IT AIN'T A SUPRA!.

Personally, if I ran up on someone who popped their MKIII hood to show me a crappy American engine, I'd have to slug him.

Am I way off base on this one?

KingDiamond 08-05-2005 09:22 PM

I have to agree with you totally , there is no reason what so ever that someone should be putting in an american piece of crap. I would never think of doing it, and if i thought about doing it, i would probably vomit at the thought

Biku 08-06-2005 12:32 AM

I wouldn't mind having a turbo ls2 in a supra :(

I like a lot of cars, domestic and import. Hating on one type just because it's not the one you like to no reason to hit someone. My first car a '66 Mustang with just an old 289ci, but just because it was a v8 doesn't make it fast. I think the stock numbers had it running 14.9s. I would have probably put in a newer 351c if I still had it though. If I did that, would it still not be just a mustang?

They could potentially make more power with a v8 anyway if they decide to add some kind of blower, so why shouldn't they do it if they want to be fast? It's their car afterall.

Poodles 08-06-2005 05:24 AM

I could have bought a pristine F-body for what i bought my Supra for, but V8's are just too easy  Plus, it's far too much fun blowing by a truck that has a V8 and close to twice the litres

Personally, I see no problem with putting a chevy engine in a Supra, as people have been doing it to toyota trucks for a long time. I'd have to ask "WHY!?!?!" but iuf the guy had one sitting around and he blew the Supra's engine, I might agree...

One of the coolest things I've seen is an RX-7 with a 2jz in it, fast as hell, but I somewhere I can hear an RX-7 fan screaming...

monkihead 08-06-2005 05:56 AM

i was begining a debate on this myself. i have access to small block chevys like crazy. i considered it, to possibly add a twin turbo setup, but decided it would kill my original concept of saving gas compared to the 6cyl. sometimes doing such an engine swap isnt crazy, just a crazy thirst for power of a brute force.

suprra_girl 08-07-2005 11:23 AM

we're jap imports for a reason

and plus... the v8 guys are only gonna laugh more at what they describe as (jap crap) more when they see american engines in it

never put that #$%$^ in a supra ;)

y not?!? if the drivetrain can handle the abuse and torture, i say go for it. i drove an 2nd gen rx7 with a 350 chevy and it was fun. one of the customers that comes by has a chevy 350 in the last gen rx7 and its getting a turbo system with it. when you have money you can make anything happen.

Poodles 08-08-2005 10:06 AM

Yeah, but as I was reading in a magazine on a guy that had a 1000+hp supra, he decided to get one when his twin turbo corvette got spanked at the dragstrip by "a silly six cylinder"

V8's are too easy in my opinion

monkihead 08-09-2005 03:51 PM

hmmm.... they are a bit easy. want one??

Tig 08-09-2005 05:48 PM

LMAO :P isnt the new concept for the supra going to be a v8? i think it was rumor though not sure

SuperSupra86 08-09-2005 08:52 PM

Well they are rumored to have a six and 8 cylinder model, but they are just concepts....whatever they put on the market will not be a Supra...it will be more of a ploy

ddmcse 08-09-2005 09:04 PM

when and if they come out with a new model supra it will drive the cost of the mkiv down , so i am all for a new model

Tig 08-09-2005 09:34 PM

HELL YEA!!! BRING IT ON!!!!! :P

Supra91_ishot 08-09-2005 11:56 PM

Good, if the prices of the MKIV goes down, I'm going to buy one, hahaha.

Poodles 08-10-2005 04:09 AM

WEll, you have the new Z car, the new RX car, and no new supra. If the trend continues, the supra will more than likely not be turboed  If toyota is smart, they should come out with a turbo car and tear everyone else up

ddmcse 08-10-2005 03:23 PM

i just don't understand why they haven't come out with one yet .
my uncle has one of those 500+hp mercedes twin turbo thingies i think it's like 120k . and im sick of hearing about it
300+hp new cars are popping up all over the place .
wtf toyota get on the ball
US cars makers are failing and are near giving the cars away .
I think toyota is going to own the whole car industry some day , so why haven't they put out a hot sports car .

Poodles 08-12-2005 02:56 AM

also, remember that there is a HP cap in japan of 280, that's why the new Z car isn't turboed, it makes that much N/A. The USDM MkIV supras where faster then the JDM supras because of this cap.

monkihead 08-12-2005 05:27 PM

hp cap?? why did the 98s come out at 320hp??

Biku 08-16-2005 10:12 AM

In Japan, there's a gentlemen's agreement to not compete in the hp department. The limit was set at 280, but is not effective in the U.S.A.

monkihead 08-16-2005 05:37 PM

wow, thats pretty cool....do they still have such an agreement??

Poodles 08-17-2005 03:56 AM

as far as I know of, yes. BUT, the funny thing is, they get around such things byt having things like TRD that sell items to take away the de-tuning on the cars. This is probably why the Supras are SOOOO overbuild and seem to have intercoolers, ect that are meant for more.

monkihead 08-17-2005 01:38 PM

i told my dad about it and he called it a cop-out. he feels thats the stupidest thing he'd heard of.....and then of course, the import bashing...

i kinda agree with him in a way, to the fact that they shouldn't have any cap. all go no holds barred, only restriction is what you can create reliably.

SuperSupra86 08-17-2005 02:22 PM

American Vs Jap MkIV

This is a good site for looking at the difference....only think i was sure of is that the Japanese Turbos are larger creating lots of Torque thet are also Ceramic

Poodles 08-18-2005 12:13 AM

That, and the cams. Common and easy swap over there is to use the export cams...

1988gte 08-28-2005 10:30 PM

I have a 88 supra turbo, 05 suzuki gsxr 600, and a 04 ford mach1 Love them all. all are different classes of cars. my 88 drives smoother than on 04 has more gadgets to! so I think drive and do what you like. :D

92supra 09-01-2005 08:43 PM

Engine transplants in my case are ok on smaller cars. Cars that no-body looks at and things, wow that will be powerful. Its the element of suprise. But when switching the engines of a supra. what is the point?, people will look at the car and think wow its a supra it should be powerful, because thats how they where built, when you transplant a engine people will look it and think its going to be powerful but they wont care because they already beleive them to be powerfull. Fair play to the work that goes into making the transplants but people. save your money. ;) you dont buy a supra to kill its name B)
