can i learn to drift using mkiv auto?

i own a mkiv 1997, tot of learning drift. but my car is auto gearbox. will it spoil my gearbox? is it a must to change into manual gearbox to drift? Is very expensive to convert into manual in my country.

You can drift only by popping your auto shifter into the second gear and performing a faint manuver which is just throwing the weight around of your car and hammering the throttle.

I dont know if wanting to drift a mk4 is your best option, especially an auto one, wouldn't want you to smash it up since you are just starting to drift.

Thanks for the advice....actually i got this car second hand since 2003, in and out of workshop many times....got some problems with second turbo and i m fixing an AEM box .i really wanted to convert in to six speed manual but the total cost was too high...USD4000!.....and i love the car very much....kinda kool.....its the original trd 3000gt imported from japan...full carbon fibre body kit....

Nice it sounds like a great car and will and can always be better. There is no rule that says you can't drift it, I just personally never would. I think there too pretty and the value of them is way expensive, some are worth more now then when they were produced in the factory. I thought about drifting my mk3, and then realized I would feel much better making it nice and throwing horsepower at it then potentially smash it up. So I have the mk3 and I bought a 240sx 5 spd to serve my drifting needs. I also have an fcRX7 on the way too.

That's crazy about the price to switch to a getrag 6 spd, is that quote just for parts to do it yourself? or is labour included for a shop to do it?

In my country Auto stuff all very expensive!!! A Brand New Toyota Supra would cost 80k USD! A Brand new porche 911 turbo cost 400k USD ! The 6 Speed manual price quoted before labour charges. I tot of getting a RX 7 manual too but according to my mechanic the engine too much problems.

Boombastc, I love the RX7s. I use to own a 85 GSL on of the best cars ever. For drifting in a automatic check out one of the NOPI drifters. He uses a 350Z auto real crazy. I at least think he is with NOPI drift. But the car is beast. Check out how he does it.
