Well i got a 88 supra today and it has a blown engine. So i'm wondering what i should do.

Would you recomend a swaping an engine from another car or just fixing the dime size hole in the block?

Thanks any sugestions is greatly appericated.

this is a new world to me i'm a prelude owner so these engines are a bit different than the honda ones.

The guy said there is a hole the size of a dime in the block.

The engine was running perfectly before it blew. Anyone have any sugestions?

my friend said that his mechanic could do a cast iron weld on it? or sompthing like that

i think you're dreaming .

i'd plan to replace the engine .

do you really want to drive around with silly putty plugging a hole in the block ?

and what caused the hole to begin with ?

you're gonna have to pull the engine anyway

No, never try to fix anything that way. If a real mechanic saw that car, he wouldn't think to weld it, he would REPLACE it. I bought a car with a cracked head once, and I later found out that the previous owner's mechanic welded it back up (Which never works) it caused engine damage. I almost wrecked into a truck when I was going 30mph and the engine decided to die. I love going 30 with no power steering or working brakes. Damn E-break never works.............

Replace the block

ok now i'm leanin towards buying this other car with the good engine in it and just swaping them.

suprra_girl 07-19-2005 10:41 AM

yeps 7mge engines are fairly cheap... or you could go the 7mgte swap way ;) turbos are more fun heh

and i wouldn't ever think of welding a block if it got a hole it in
replace the engine

what are the plans for the car? daily driver and racer? or just daily driver?

zmatt 07-19-2005 12:49 PM

I'm planing on making this a fast car not a daily driver or just fix her up and then sell for a profit. It all depends.

Is there anything that i would have to do to put a 7mgte engine in the n/a car?

suprra_girl 07-19-2005 12:57 PM

get a complete 7mgte.... strip it... send block and head to reconditioner.. get it prepped for a mhg... get a mirror finish on the block.. metal head gaskets require perfection
get hks bead type mhg... arp head studs, torque to 82ft lbs with arp's moly lube
all back together, stick it in with a 7mgte wiring harness and ecu from a 86-88 mk3 and in theory

all go

it's early in the morning... someone add if i forgot something imperative lol

You could always watch on ebay they have some decent deals on jdm low mileage engines. Probably a lot more cost effective them buying another car, what would you do with the other car, and how much would you be paying for it.

zmatt 07-19-2005 05:32 PM

well he wants like 300 for the other car but its N/A too

i'd have to find a salvage Turbo supra somewhere with all the parts i need.
