Gas Tank Door?

Ok so I just went and got a 1988 Supra Turbo and man was it worth it. So I used all the gas having fun and when it was time to fill up, the stupid gas tank lever won't open up the door. I was like WTF?!? I tried messing with the door itself but it's just making if worse and I can't seem to get that dang door open, any ideas?

the cables for the tank door and hatch stretch with time, its a known problem. What I would do is, since the car had gas in it I assume the previous owner was able to open it, is pull the switch to open it(make sure its the gas one and not the hatch one too) and do it over and over again like 15 times. My hatch doesnt like to open but today, i opened it 3 times in a row using this method.

Fixed mine

There's a rod that is on the latch that gets dirt grime in there - I sprayed it with some wd 40 and it works real nice now.
