so i have been lookin for a supra near me and i just happened to be lookin in the paper and my jaw dropped. I havent seen it yet but does it sound like a good deal?

Automobiles - 1987 Toyota Supra Turbo 2nd owner, exc cond, many new parts, never seen snow, needs head gasket. $3,500 firm.

Sorry to dissapoint you but the answer is "NO"...my opinion.

I've bought mine for $4,000 and at 160,000 miles with a new head gasket replacement on it too. Plus it's an 89 Turbo.

Now mine is having some engine problems. I suggest you can do better than that and find a better one with a better deal.

i second that

alright ill wait some more then... it has 120k miles on it interior looks perfect... the body dosent have any rust though paint is starting to bubble on the rear fender and the modeling is faded.. its hard since i never see any supras in my area im in upstate new york.. so i would only use it for the summer anyways since it is a rear wheel drive car.

iluvmysupra 07-14-2005 06:46 PM

How about this:

I just bought a 91' supra, 97k miles, runs great, (just gotta replace the head gasket), the interior is leather, for 900 bucks. The guy who sold it to me was the first owner. The car in general is in supra conditon.(ha, ha) Did I just about steal the car?

(I had never heard of a supra and I don't know much about them, I was just shopping for my first car and my dad found me this one)

bigal0043 07-17-2005 11:19 PM

alright i got the guy talked down to 2500 and i am really thinking about it... i havent seen a supra for sale up this way ever!... put in another 500 bucks for the car to run good so 3k for a fast car? i think if the interior wasnt in such good condition i wouldnt get it...im going to go test drive it tomorrowsays the turbo runs fine and holds boost

it is a targa top and he says he hasnt had any leaks

bigal0043 07-18-2005 01:38 AM

I had a quick question ... this will be my first supra how is the price for parts for this car? are they really expensive?

ddmcse 07-18-2005 11:11 AM

depends on the part needed

can a used part be used ?

does it have to be OEM ?

toyota parts direct from toyota are not cheap

this place is cheaper than my local toyota dealer

bigal0043 07-18-2005 02:05 PM

no it wouldnt have to be oem stuff.... does autozone or advance usually have these parts in stock?

ddmcse 07-18-2005 02:16 PM

it depends on the part

bigal0043 07-18-2005 03:59 PM

Alright so when i go test drive it... i should look for the following??

Oil pressure stays high

Any knocks in the engine

Constant boost

ill look for rust under the spare wheel
and see if the hoses to the turbo are brittle

Am i missing anything??
Does 2500 sound good for the car?

ddmcse 07-18-2005 08:58 PM

i'd check the radiator fluid . seeing how this is a known blown head gasket the fluid will prolly look like crap with lots of floaties

and i'd check the dipstick to see the condition of the oil .. totally black is a bummer .

as nice as the cars are and how great they handle and drive and all that ....
THEY COMPLETELY SUCK WITH A BLOWN GASKET/ENGINE
and although some day they may be worth something ..they are not worth CRAP until the BHG is repaired

a metal head gasket alone is close to $300

you need to point out to this guy that the block and head needs to be completely resurfaced .. you don't just put on a metal gasket and drive away
add the gasket to the cost of the machine shop doing the head and block

you are going to pull the block out right ?
cha-ching

see the other post by the kid with the $900 dollar supra ?
leather dude !
different dog same set of fleas
should cost the same

bigal0043 07-18-2005 09:38 PM

True but i also have to weigh the fact that i havent seen a supra near me for over 4 years... how long i have been looking for one... i have a friend that will do the hg for me and charge a little fee... as for a resurface that is around like 40 bucks right from what i have read from other posts? MHG i saw for like 145 and arp bolts for 125 so 300 for the mhg and bolts.....He said that it is drivable at the moment but the hg has a small leak or something so its not recommened to drive on it... What harm is caused to the engine if this person drove on it for while?

Does a targa top make it more valuable or less?

edit oh yea i looked in the radiator and it looked fine.. ill check the overflow bottle for signs of previous overheating and ill be doing a test drive today in like an hour so ill let u know.. .this will be the first one i have ever test drove ... did i tell u that they are very rare up this way?

ddmcse 07-18-2005 11:56 PM

you gotta love the targa top

both supras i owned had the targa top

one leaked one didn't

driving while being blown ?
sounds like a good thing to me
not much harm there

where is "here " north pole ?

bigal0043 07-19-2005 12:23 AM

ddmcse i like a man with a sense of humor... here would be upstate new york... there are 3 in this area one that nevers sees daylight some old man drives it and only now and then during the summer... and the other one is suppose to be around here i just have never seen it and well the 3rd one is the one i just bought lol...... yea i bought it couldnt help it i guess if you want something bad enough you can live with the price... 2500 another 500 for parts and labor and a decently fast car...

i checked the trunk for any rust and there was none... no signs that the targa top leaked interior is flawless... body is flawless except for the bumper that is faded but ill just repaint that.. 120k miles the guy had an oil leak in it put had the most of the gaskets replaced and dosent leak now.. he was so close to having the head gasket he should have done it while he was in there... it has a sport suspension and abs brakes... i did a test drive with it and i got it up to 85 with no problem and short amount of time.. i was watching the oil pressure and temp while doing this and oil stayed strong and the temp stayed at normal temp.. thats all i have to say right now... cant think of anything else to say.. .it has a new stereo system in it and they never did the work themselves on the car they always brought it to a toyota dealer... im the 3rd owner

oh yea what made me more even to buy it was the fact that they had every receipt and log of the car... all the way to the day it was bought with the bill from the dealer

SuperSupra86 07-19-2005 05:05 AM

Congrats....I hope everything works out well for you with your supra :D

ddmcse 07-19-2005 11:11 AM

i agree with the money factor

if you really love the car the money doesn't matter

i love mine
i love driving it

i love how much HP it has

it's a total pleasure to drive

one thing that i like the best about my car is the fact that my wife loves riding in the car

hot car , TARGA top OFF , with my beautiful wife in the passenger seat crusing down the road .. life is good

KingDiamond 07-19-2005 01:09 PM

Congrats on your new baby, hope you get her running right.
