My supra is acting really weird, that battery dies when its sits overnight and i got the battery tested. Its good. and when i run the car it seems to charge up to 18 volts when i hit the gas. Like a spike or surge. I but i dont think the alternator is bad. anyone have any ideas?

then you may have a short somewhere in your electrical system.

Well first off if your charing system is charging at 18 volts then your voltage regulator is probably shot, its not suppose to charge that high. Second, if your battery is dying overnight then you probably have what they call a parasitic draw, something in your electrical system is pulling battery power constantly, such as monkihead said a short in your electrical system.

 parasitic draw?? is that the tech term?? it sounds like a tick, almost evil.

Well if the voltage regulator is shot would that drain the battery if it got wet?

possibly. just take off the alternator to get it checked.

lilsmitty 07-09-2005 07:33 PM

Where is the voltage regulator located?

monkihead 07-09-2005 10:48 PM

its internal, i believe...alternator

I've had similar problems, except it was with my sub system. I had it hot constantly, so I wired a switch up to the deck - Sub antenna to turn it off when I was done with it, seemed to fix the problem. If your battery is fine, it could be an ignition relay or main relay. Have you checked your fuses? It could also be that you need to replace your positive battery cable clamp. Cars suck like that, haha
