Paint?????
 

Ok, so I know this is kinda of a open ended question, but If I wanted to change the color of my supra and make it look nice, how much cost am I looking at?

I currently have the stock red, but would like to go with something in the navy blue range, or maybe the royal sapphire blue.

Am I crazy? Or would this be possible without damaging the integrity of the car, etc.

If you want a great paint job, by far the best way is to completely strip the car. In other words, remove all of lights, side markers, weatherstripping, engine, etc and send the car to the paint shop as a nearly bare shell. You can either pay the body shop to do this work, or do it all yourself.

If you don't go to the trouble to strip off those unpainted parts, you'll see the old color everywhere, like in the door jams, engine bay, fender wells, etc. In other words, it'll pretty much end up looking like cr@p, to anyone that looks closely. I'd guess at least $1000 in labor to strip the car and pull out the engine. If you do it yourself, you can save that $1k...

Not including the labor to strip those unpainted parts off of the car, you're probably looking at about $4k or so for a good paint job with a basic oem color. If you want anything fancy (for example the oem quicksilver), you'd probably be looking at more than $5k...

If possible, do what I did - make the right shop connection, labor for hours on end ... pay for the cost of paint and get some practical learning experience by doing the bondo, primer, first 3 coats, etc on your own. According to the owner I saved over $3grand.

Thanks for the imput. I think I better just stay red for now. Little more money than the navy blue I wanted is worth to me. Guess Ill just have the add the body accessories I want and just get the whole thing red all at the same time.

Guess some people have deeper pockets than me. Cause I see some great paint jobs on ebay.
