97 MKIV problem

Hi,
I recently purchased a 1997 N/A automatic supra. I put about 100 miles on it and the check engine light came on so I got a buddy to hook up his module to see what the code was. I dont remember the exact wording but it was something to do with insufficient exhaust flow (code PO401). He said it could be many things, possibly an EGR valve. Anyone have a problem like this or know what the problem is?

Your buddy is right...it could be many things, but I agree that one of the first places to check is the egr valve itself. After 100K+ miles, the valve can get carboned up, which could restrict egr flow. You could try disassembling it and cleaning it...or replacing it with a new egr valve from 'yota.

P.S. I'm assuming this is the only code showing up in your ecu...and that your Supra is otherwise in perfect running order.
