Thinking about buying 500WHP MKIV - Need Advice

Hi guys, I'm new here.

I'm thinking about purchasing a 500WHP single turbo Supra MKIV. It is tuned to 1 BAR (Aprox. 16 PSI) of boost and has the capability of 2 BAR. I'm wondering what kind of maintenance costs I can expect for the powertrain. I have no idea if the owner installed upgraded internals or just new stock ones so assuming the internals are new/stock, would they be able to handle 16 PSI of boost ok or would it be sketch? If a piston rod were to break, how much would it cost best-worst case scenario? Is the stock powertrain capable of handling 500WHP reliably? What modifications should I be sure to have on the car to increase reliablity?

It would be very helpful if current or past high HP Supra owners could tell me what kind of problems they have had and how much it cost them to correct the problems or just what mods they have on their 2jze-gte and how reliable it has been.

The more you can tell me the better!

Thank you!

Please provide the exact configuration of the vehicle you're planning to purchase. Which aftermarket turbo kit? Does it have a fuel system? If so, how big are the injectors? How well was it maintained (do you have maintenance records)? Stock cams? Which ecu? Who tuned it? etc.

The oem 2jz-gte rods don't break at 2 bar or less, unless you don't run enough octane. In fact, the oem 2jz-gte rods, pistons, crankshaft, valvetrain, etc. can all take 2.5 bar if you run enough octane, with proper tuning. The stock 2jz-gte can make 1000hp take-it-to-the-bank reliably and repeatedly, unless you don't run enough octane. This is no joke or exaggeration at all. However, if you don't run enough octane, the most expensive aftermarket internals will instantly get destroyed with high boost in any engine (not just the 2jz-gte).

Oh, it's not just the 2jz-gte that can take 1000hp+ reliably...it's the entire Mkiv TT 6spd driveline. Of course you can screw up the synchros in the tranny if you shift abusively ('power-shifting' with no rev matching), and you can licorice the driveshaft if you try to drag race with R-compound roadrace rubber (via wheel hop), but the properly-driven, entire driveline in the Mkiv TT is a rock.

P.S. 1 bar is not 16psi. It's closer to 14.503773800721814 psi. I guess you could round that up to 15psi, but I don't see how you could get 16psi. *shrug*

Cool thanks, that's all I needed to know. If I do buy I'll have the car retuned anyway. Thanks!
