I paid cash for my '87. You may want to consider a "personal loan" which you do not need to disclose what you are purchasing, therefore YOU get the vehicle title and not the bank. the interest rate will be higher but you'll get what you want and it will legally be yours.

Well I've thought about the personal loan which I would take out around 15,000. I've got 10k I'm going to put with it. I figure if I shop around for a while from what I've seen you can get a nice TT 6-speed in that range.

Get a personal loan from the bank. Then you can own the car outright and use the title to get a auto loan with a better rate. My personal loan is in the 12% range, but at least I have a supra.
