buying a na and got a question
 

looking at buying a 95 na supra. it has a ton of miles on it. i found a tt engine with ecu and harness and everything. is it worth it to buy the car and swap the engines over? i know it will take a lot of work to turbo the na version so thats why im looking at doing the engine swap. do you guys think its worth the investment or an i looking at the biggest pain in the butt project?

Swapping the engine+harness isn't too hard - you can do it in about six hours or less, depending on the expertise of the project participants. Making it all work after the physical engine+harness swap however, is another story. Among other things, you'll need a TT ecu, an ignitor, possibly an injector resistor pack, a different maf (I believe), and a new downpipe.

After the swap,etc. do keep in mind that you still won't have a transmisison or differential capable of reliably handling a bpu+++ 2jz-gte. Also keep in mind your na braking system (calipers, abs system, etc.) probably won't be sufficient to stop you consistently after that 2jz-gte gets your na chassis moving (depending on your application) ... Also, there's suspension, rims, tires, etc...all the same story.

i understand that it wont be the same car. obviously the tt version was built a little stonger. but i plan on upgrading the brakes anyways and rims along with other things. im not looking to be making a thousand horsepower,more around five hundred or so. do you know of any places (websites) i can get ignitor, an injector resistor pack, a different maf, and a new downpipe. the engine im looking at has the esc and wire harness with it. or so the guy says. one other question. im trying to get this all worked out so i can do the swap in one shot and not over a month period.

You get the ignitor, injector resistor pack and maf from Toyota. You can also get the downpipe+cat from Toyota, or get a cat-less downpipe from several suppliers including MVP Motorsports.

Also, be sure the TT ecu you get is for the correct model-year, and is for the correct transmission type (auto vs. 6spd). If you go auto, I believe that the TT auto ecu can probably shift the n/a auto tranny, but I'm not 100% sure.

i didnt think of that. the one im looking at buying is a 1995 five speed. the engine im not sure of the year but it has an auto transmisson on it. should i look for a total new ecu? i got a buddy that works for a shop that builds supras and said whatever i needed he can get me. how much you think he will charge me for the ecu and wiring harness?

Yes, you'll need a new ecu (as I said above). An n/a ecu can not control a 2jz-gte.
Used TT ecus usually go for about $200 last time I checked. A brand-new harness from 'yota is about $800 or so. Honestly I wouldn't try to make a second-hand harness work - they're usually full of broken plastic connectors and sometimes other continuity problems. Just mho.
