Purchasing and upgrade questions for a 1993-1996 supra non turbo

Hi, i am planning on purchasing a 93-96 supra non turbo in automatic transmission. (I am 17) I just had a few questions which is why i came here to ask people who are very experienced with these cars.*apologies for the very beginner questions i am quite new at purchasing cars and performance upgrades*

-what price range should i be looking at when looking at all of the sale ads (please mention if your prices are in US dollars, because i live in Canada)

-in the future i hope to buy a turbo, since this car is going to be one with an automatic transmission what would be the maximum horsepower i can achieve?

-what other upgrades would i need to acquire this sort of performance?

-how much control is lost considering it is an automatic transmission?

Additional advice as regards to purchasing a supra would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

In US$, I'm pretty sure that most Mkiv Supra TT's in decent shape are still going for about $20K USD.

The mkiv tt oem auto tranny can take about 500rwhp, with regular hard driving, without trouble (assuming proper maintenance).

You'll need a single turbo to get 500rwhp, or bpu++++ mods with the oem twins PLUS nitrous.

Why would you say cost is lost considering it is an automatic transmission?

Be sure any used Mkiv Supra TT has through maintenance records. Also get someone to inspect it that is objective (i.e. not affiliated with the seller), and very familiar with the Mkiv Supra TT.

hmm, alright thanks for the info. Do, you know the answer to these questions for a non turbo instead of a TT?

I'd advise against getting a non-turbo. In truth, it's nowhere near the vehicle that the Mkiv TT is. Nearly every component is significantly downgraded, except the chassis 'shell' itself. Just mho.

Oh alright thanks for the great advise! and ya i'm pretty sure i'm going to purchase a TT, however i'm probably going to import the RZ (Manual transmission) from Japan so it will be RHD. Just another question, i'm not sure if it's possible but can you get 1000+ HP with an RZ(manual transmission)? Do you have a suggested setup if it is possible?

I'm not 100% sure, but my best guess is yes, I believe that you can build a 1000hp+ setup with the RZ. If you mean 1000hp at the crank (850rwhp), then you'll need (in no particular order) a 72mm single turbo kit, a 100 shot of nos, some 272 cams, an AEM ecu, a fuel system with 850cc injectors, an intake (eg VirtualWorks) & throttle body, c16 race fuel, a twin or triple disk clutch, an fmic, and lots of dyno tuning. To put the power to the ground, you'll need some wide rear rims (eg. 11.5" wide), with some great drag radials, r-compound road race tires, or drag slicks. I'm pretty sure that's the most of the items. I posted a similar list on this thread:

hey, after reviewing your replies i've been looking at a MKIV twin turbo, i'm probably going to see the owner soon to check it out, i'm pretty new at purchasing used cars, so what should i look for to make sure it's a twin turbo? Is there anything that is really different compared to an NA? Serial Numbers? Thanks

Wilson makes a good one.

Note you only "need" one if you're shooting for 1000hp+. The oem throttle body does fine if all you need is 700rwhp or so. Also note that the oem throttle body is much easier to drive and tune.
