No Spark From Coil

Hey, i bought a supra '92 with a 5M GE engine, we cleaned out the injectors because it was smoking black, afterwards it was running well but suddenly the engine shut off and we had to push it back after checking it was the coil that does give sometimes spark when you move the coil but without touching it it will not any tips or reasons for this problem?

Is it an 82 or a 92? I've never heard of a 92 with a 5M-GE. Is the ground connected on the coil?

SilenceboneSupra 10-10-2007 10:03 PM

it is a 5M GE engine it was purchased and put in a '92 supra

Never seen that swap before. Care to post a few pictures of it? And it could be a bad ground on the coil or it could be a dead coil itself. When you move it, something could connect inside that has previously let go.

yea strange swap it has not sow much room under the hood with this engine, i currently do not have pictures but the car was running well with this engine i bought it from someone the only problem was the clutch sow had that replaced and it was running well with no problems at all untill the problem with the coil. the coil is not giving any sparks on itself only when you move it around or hit it softly with something...

Sooooo.......what part are you gonna replace????????????

SilenceboneSupra 10-11-2007 04:12 AM

IDK why should i replace the coil if it is working? it is not giving any sparks on itself only when you move it or hit it softly

iom having a similar problem myself i was driving and i was low on gas and my7 car died it was running but when i pushed my gas down it didnt go anywhere it wouldnt move then about 6 seconds later my car died i tryed startng it while rolling at 45 and then i just coasted into a gas station. got gas and it still didnt start. i kept trying it and it finnally started and i drove it home turned it off to go get my books for college and when i came back out it didnt start whatso ever and now im driving my blue truck around. my starters turning over and i have fuel pressure on my areomotive fuel pressure regulator and i think that either my fuel filter is clogged and i have never replaced it so im def gonna try that and if not then i have 2 more coil packs and ill try replacing it. im gonna diagnose the problem this afdternoon so ill give you the word and let you know. plus i would very much like to see this 5mge please take pictures. i dont get why they did that switch. i would of just redid the headgasket on the 7mgte with new headbolts and boosted it up to 17. and that 5mge wouldnt of been able to touch it. or they blew the engine and thats all the money they had was for a 5mge. keep in touch

let me change that it is indeed a 7MGE motor just a wrong logo on it, i have checked with the previous owner and it is a 7MGE engine

cool you might wanna check the ground coming off the coil pack and make shure its grounded. you might also wanna check the fuses and relays. you might also wanna check the coil pack its self normally the coils can go out but you have 3 totally different coils. normally all three dont go out at once. so my bet is fuel pressure check your fuel pump voltage. under the back compartment carpet there is a plate that is round that covers ytour gauge meter there are two connectors a gray one and a light yellow. the liught yellow is your gauges. the gray one is your pump. check that with a voltmeter and see if its getting voltage when you start the car if it is and you hear the fuel pump kick on then it prolly is working. next check your fuel filter. it might be bad or clogged. does your car even try to start over??? if so check your starter relay or circuit opening relay they are located behind the ecu on the bottom right side of the car(passenger) and it will be on the side about ankle high it will say starter relay or circuit opening relay if it is a stock relay. if you need anything else just send me a message
