Test tranny/engine out of car?

Hey all,

I've got both my engine and transmission sitting out of the car. The engine "should" work perfectly. The transmission (auto) was 'slipping' in everything but reverse before I pulled it.

I'm running a compression test on the engine today. Is there anything else I might wanna test on it before dropping it in?

Also, could the tranny have been 'slipping' (to the point where it wouldn't move more than 10mph) because of leaky tranny cooler lines? If not, how much should I expect to pay to get it diagnosed?

[edit] Forgot to mention -- Tranny died after an unintentional neutral drop while redlining =] -- I took the torque converter off and the bolts behind it look brand new suggesting it was rebuilt very recently. [/edit]

Thanks for the info!
