87 Supra is on a distinguished road

I have the same whine coming form my rear end. I think mine was caused by the previous owner running it dry or very low on gear oil. I filled it back up and it’s not as loud now. How long can you drive one of these things with that whine? I have other issues as well so the differential wasn’t high on my list. How hard is it to do the swap?
