Coolant system pressure

When the coolant system is fully pressurised, i.e. when the engine is good and hot how hard should it be to squeeze the radiator hose?

At the moment I can depress it about 1\2 inch, a bit like a slightly under-inflated bicycle tyre.

Does this seem about right?

Very good. Mine has always been hard when the temp gauge shows normal (between 1/4 & 1/2) in the summer. But then, look where I live. Its finally getting back down to about 96*, but for the prior 3 weeks, it was over 105*, and some days 110*.

In the late fall thru spring, my hose stays soft enough to squeeze most of the time.

That's good enough for me :)

We have had some pretty hot weather lately and with a black car, well.....
