Mass Air flow sensor

Does anyone know if you can use carb cleaner to clean the Mass air flow sensor?

Syris 08-31-2007 04:08 PM

Why would you be thinking about doing this?

phill_54321 08-31-2007 04:10 PM

the people at auto zone said that if there is no check engine light then the mass air flow sensor is probably not bad just clogged. Two different employees said that the carb cleaner should work

is it a gte or ge? GTE's have a karmen vortex maf and you can disassemble it and wipe it down and it should be fine

WE don't have Carburetors

Those 'zone' guys are thinking of the other MAF that uses a wire or 2 inside. CRC makes a MAF sensor spray just for cleaning it. NEVER use carb spray. The word CARB should pop out at you.

Carb spray is VERY strong, and can screw up plastics.

BRAKE spray cleaner would be OK.

Idk

I just clean my Mass air flow sensor with CRC sensor cleaner, then after that my car wont run the same way, I dont know what happen, I remember I hit it accidentally while taking it off then spary a lot of cleaner, you think I mess it up? i just order a good one from ebay and waiting for it to come. My Supra is 1988 MK3 7m-GTE, any advice guys? I appreciate it.

p.s.

When I press the gas faster it will not boost and I have to press it lightly. I cant press the gas faster coz the car will slow down, I feel like no much gas going to engine.

The short answer, yes. You did ruin it. The CRC can specifically says to not use on KVAFM style air flow meters, which is what the 7mgte uses.

Hopefully the one on ebay you bought is actually good.

Yep, I looked again on my can of crc maf cleaner and it specifically says do not use on a KVAFM and it lists the supra as the first example. I guess it pays to follow instructions.

Thank you Guys, learn my lesson...I appreciate your time to answer. Just in a hurry when I got my first mk3 after I sold my mk4 then I did it with mk4 but ok, and then immediately spray it on mk3 without really reading it :-) thanks again guys.
