quick oil question.

yes i know its stupid, but how much oil does the 7mgte hold? i bought the car w/o a manual and havet invested in one yet, my buddy over filled her yesterday and i have oil down in the spark plug bay....again. he put in 4 quarts, but there may have been 5 total(he doesnt remember) and i wasnt watching him. sorry for the stupidty, but it would be nice for some help. thanks

also, what oil type should i be running? everyone that i know out here uses "mobil 1 10w-30 fully synthetic" my dad has built muscle cars snce he was a kid and ke knows cars. hes got a 06 gto with super charger and twin turbos, pretty nice, bout 800hp, anyways hes telling me to run like a 10w40 because its thicker, and hes sayin it should fix the oil pressure gauge problem.

The 7mgte will hold approximatly 5 qts. But to be on the safe side, when filling it up put in about 4-4.5 qts, run the engine, and then check it.

Oil in the spark plugs, check your valve cover gaskets for leaks.

The Oil pressure guage on many supra's will seem like they are reading 0 at idle, and its totally fine. Run the oil of your choice, but the general population of owners seem to run the Mobil 1 10w30 synthetic. I personally run Valvoline 10w30 synthetic.

im actually going to be running castrol synthetic 5w-30 with the OEM filter. just dont go cheap and make sure the oil you buy say API ceritfied and has a

ASE SM in the little ciricle on the container

It ain't the valve cover gaskets leaking.

A turbo supra holds 5.5 quarts.

Oil pressure at hot idle should be 10psi not 0.

Burning Pyro 09-01-2007 05:05 PM

well at any rate i fixed it. but i hate how ppl say on here that its normal for it to be at 0. thats not normal. ive worked on cars and i know how it works, my dad says the same. hes rebuilt muscle cars. at idle it should be at least 20psi. w/o pressure how is it going thru the system. i have a new gauge, but i messed up putting the sandiwch plate in, i think i was sent the wrong one, but im more than positive the stock gauge is not 100% functional. i recall one day dring and it shot up to 80, and then back to 0 with in 5 minutes. idk, just my thoguhts and throwing it out there, not trying to say anyone is wrong, but i dont think its right

Supras and most Jap cars use a low pressure high flow oil pump, much different from domestic manufacturerers and "mucle cars". Oil pressure should never exceed 40 psi on a MK3 supra, if it does, the relief valve or spring in the oil pump is bad. And at hot idle oil pressure should be "higher than 4.3psi" thats straight out of the TSRM. Don't forget that oil pressure changes with oil temperature. When I say hot idle, I mean oil temps above 190F degrees.
