15" wheels on MarkIII

Has anyone tried 15" wheels on a mark 3? Will they clear the stock brakes?

I have an '89 non-T daily driver. It needs some new wheels as the factory saws aren't holding air very well. I can get ahold of some 2nd gen rx-7 wheels (basic 5 spoke deal) for a good price.

Any thoughts?

Kev

im sure they will fit but why 15..the rims are gunna look whimpy on da car

I roll 14's on my Nova. 11.50's @ 125 n/a. Adding the hose next. I like smaller wheels and bigger tires. Old school, I guess.

it might be a issue with the brakes, are brakes are pretty big:)

j3pz 08-08-2007 12:25 AM

hmm is this for a dd? wonder what that will do to mpg

cre 08-08-2007 03:05 AM

Some 15's will clear the brakes.... some won't. You'll need to test fit them to know for sure.

Why not put new tires on the stock rims and buy new valve steams? Thats probly were there leaking from, But the rx7 wheels will look nice.

that will be amazing if you can 15" rims that can clear the calipers

please read up, before telling them to install something that cant fit

i tried 16" with a 38mm offset and they wouldnt fit my car

so i can only imagine how a 15" rims will fit,
maybe the rear, but definitely not the front calipers

What kind of wheels did you try to put on it? The stock sawblades are 16x7s with a +35 mm offset.

No shit... at any rate I didn't say they'd all fit. A friend of mine and a member on SM are running 15's, I'm pretty sure they're both running the stock brakes too.

i wanna see, cuz like i said, i tried 16" and the front calipers were rubbing against the wheel,
and im saying this from experience, not from a friend

I'm not talking about someone I've just seen around, I've driven it. I'll see about getting you some pics. By the way... if you're still running the stock brakes and you couldn't get 16's to fit they were either very oddly shaped or something's very wrong with your brakes. The stockers, both 5-spoke and sawblades, are 16's. One's a 37 offset the other 38. Do a search on SM, there's a thread about running 15's (with some pics, IIRC). ;)

15's can fit all the way around it depends on the offset and the specific shape and design of the rim.

well, im rolling with the 17's that i got now,
now much of a wheel man, cuz i know the stocker are 16's thats why i thought the 16's that i got would fit they didnt

small rims is way to american looking for me :P

cre 08-10-2007 05:49 PM

Small rims are good from a dig... typically. I'm about to move up to 17" though.

Supra2NR, it was either the design of the rim or the offset that kept those 16's from fitting. Where did they hit? The face of the caliper?

they ddnt hit the face of the caliper, it was the right offset, i think bcuz it was a reverse lip cuz i had to mount the tires from the back, thats probly why they ddnt fit
but all this time i was saying you cant fit 15" rims cuz i was talking about the front brakes that wouldnt clear

off course, the rear you can fit 15's with no problem
i already did that when i borrowed slicks from a friend of mine

cre 08-11-2007 01:50 AM

I know what you're saying. I'm saying and a few other people in those threads are saying that YES you can fit SOME 15" rims all the way around.

Supra2NR 08-12-2007 03:19 AM

That's what I was looking for, but iddnt see any pics at all

cre 08-12-2007 04:49 AM

I was saying that from the beginning. ;)

I'll get pics the next time my friend comes down. He's got two MKIII's and the one with the 15's is rarely driven... but for you, I get pics. The front barely clear, but they do clear and the car drives fine... although I don't think it corners very well. We don't meet up too often, but we're supposed to meet up sometime this week so I can use his laptop to finish tuning my MAFT Pro. Hopefully we'll be able to meet up tomorrow or Monday, I'm sick of running rich.
