textbook toyota electrical problems

So i bought an 87 turbo last year while in iraq. i came home and my buddy had blown my engine. no problem, whatever, so we rebuilt the engine (bought a JDM N/A and went frankenstein). We got it running and had overheating problems. So i spent all day flushing the system, did it about 30 times and once rust stopped coming out i closed it up. still overheated. so i threw a set of calsonic fans in that i jacked out of a maxima. wired em up so they are on high all the time (switch in the car) not long after that, i was driving it and the overheating had ceased. keep in mind, i wired it up by itself. it is not hooked up to ANY of the electronics in the car. I have burned up about 8 fusible links and my fuse block is starting to melt. through process of elimination we learned that i had a bad alternator so i bought a new one and threw it on. still burns up links. is it possible that my alternator is recharging my battery (optima red top btw) at a rate that is too much for the fusible link wire? basically my theory is that my fans pull too much power and the alternator is putting too much voltage back in via fusible link. any help?
