question about JDM 1jz-gte engine age
I have a Mk III I want to put a 1JZ-GTE in at some point. Are these engines still being made and put into new cars or are the engines we're getting now all old and getting older?

Ok, so if I see multiple websites advertising a complete engine/5sp/ECU package for exactly $1,900, what am I really seeing? I need some help reading between the lines here. I'm not really excited about spending 2K + shipping to order something if some funny business is going on behind the scenes.
Are these engines just sitting around waiting for someone to buy one because the market is saturated and I am just seeing the same engine advertised by multiple sellers?

basically what you are seeing is a 40 k motor that has been removed from a JDM car and was sold to a US company that resales them. 1JZ is not a really wanted motor everyone wants 2JZ's, or RB26DETT or SR20det's. So this is the reason for the 1900 dollars. What site did find this one at I wouldnt recommend the one I got mine from. Also be leery if it in Japan and needs to imported because it is gonna cost for shipping across the ocean and shipping to your house and then you have to pay for customs and such this can run a bit high. I think total I paid 1900 for my clip, then 700 for shipping, 70 for storage, 45 for customs. So like 3 grand kinda sucks but once you drive it you will like what you got. But as for what you are looking at you will get a motor the ECU the tranny and the wireing harness for the ECU connections. It is better to buy a clip because you will get some sensors that way and also all the connectors you need under the dash.

I just hate the thought of even having to rebuild a jdm.
But I would. And I can see where the clip would be a huge bonus plus plus. That way you would have a template for fab work. |

You should be able to ship it anywhere basically in the continental U.S. for right around 500 bucks.

Is that a typical package for a JDM "clip" or is a clip something else?

If it was a clip it will say front clip or something like that. That is for the motor and such already out of the car. This isnt a bad thing but the fact is a clip costs a whole lot more than that like this web site. http://www.rimsandthings.com/jdm_clips.htm#mitsubishiin the toyota section you will see how much a clip usually runs in price. You could go either way it is completly up to you. Sometimes you can find a clip on ebay with body panels and everything they usually are already imported and shipping is cheaper. kinda like this 2JZ clip http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2JZ-G...QQcmdZViewItem
just kinda shows what you are looking for.

Since I'm putting a 1JZ in a Mk III I don't really want a "clip" then, do I?
