which is better

as of right now i have a 1997 toyota corolla and a 1987 supra turbo 5-speed

im surrently in school for the next nine months. i am debating on weather i should leave the supra at home and take the rolla and while im away have the HG replaced and then when its done come back and get it. heres the delima

i have heard toyota redesigned the OEM headgasket and if youre keeping the boost levels below the fuel cut then the OEM gasket is fine. which i will be keeping the car stock till i come out of college. lets say i go to a reputable shop and have a ARP head studs installed and a new redesigned toyota headgasket installed with a 100K miles motor. how long will this motor run fine till about 160 170 thousand miles with good preventative maintanence or do they not typically last that long. the problem is i dont have enough money for the metal headgasket and all the maching and labor costs but i would have the money for the OEM gasket and arp bolts and labor to put them on. i wont be racing or anything but RPM will be kept below 5 grand like 6500 is the redline. i guess im asking is it an alright idead to do the oem idea if i wont be modifying for a long time.. then when i modify i am actually gonna get a JDM 7mgte and still drive my supra and when i dont work work on the extra 7mgte and when i have it all ready just do a little swap. hopefully someone here can give me some good info. but thanks to all who help</a>

If you can't afford parts....., that might be you answering the question of wich car to drive and wich to leave.

Jdm engines do not drop right in. They generally require a rebuild first.
Alot of the questions you are asking are very green.

Now this isn't a bad thing, point of fact. Your' questions can be answered with research.

You need to spend more time researching the things you are asking about.

Almost as if you have to earn the right to get to even be under the hood of one of these cars let alone with your hand up her skirt.

about your research thing. i have researched and ive seen people use the OEM gasket and have no problems as long as they stay under 10psi. i have HEARD others say not to do it to just get the metal one and deck the head and block.. but i dont want to sped money on the current motor in it.

yes i know the JDM motor will need a rebuild. it will get one along with a bunch of other parts. the JDM motor will receive a metal HG

now. i would like a certain answer on if its fine to pull the head. use ARP bolts and a stock OEM headgasket torqued to 75ft/lbs on a non decked head and block. the head will be checked for warpage and so will the block both will receive a good look over a few times.

i do have the right to be under the hood or whatever you say. im at a School Called Wyotech for training to be an auto technician and i know all the workings of the motor and other $hit attached to it. i just want a simple yes its alright to do this or no it isnt.

I have heard of some guys running the set up you are speaking of.

IMO, it's risky. If you're going to put the money and time into resurfacing the head and the block. Why take the risk.

Honestly I think they both have close to the same success and fail rate.

It's about the quallity of work that's put to it.

I wasn't trying to give you attitude..., wich you clearly took it as.

In the end it's you that has to decide. You know better than anyone how you drive. If you don't tend to drive hard makes a difference.

I went with metal because I know how I drive. I'm sorry if you were offended. I meant you no disrespect. I re-read my post and I can see how you took it the way that you did.
