Locking the Crankshaft

I need to tighten the crank bolt but can't really access the flywheel to stick a prybar in there.

Is there any other way to keep the crankshaft from turning (other than the prybar)?

tighten your ebrake really tightly and put the car in gear, if its 5spd of coarse. 3rd gear works best.

I don't know what the tool is called
But its a long bar and a bike chain at the end
I used to wrap around the flywheel
And pinned it against the ground

Or, call a friend

I usualy find my own ways to block rotation to save buying that specialty tool :P such as stick a wooden block between the timing belt and a sprocket so it can't turn ,manuals are easy 'cause you just put 'em in gear. If creativity isn't enough your going to have to buy the handle thing Supra2NR mentioned.

I ended up jamming the belt with some wood.

Was gonna do that at first but I thought the belt would slip round the crank pulley.

Thanks. =]
