HELP! Blown engine! What do I do now?!

Hey guys, I have an 88 Turbo Supra with a blown engine. Not good, I know. Looking to get it back to a running, stock condition as it was before. I have NO idea where to go with this. I can do the work myself, but parts... oh, parts are seemingly HARD to find. How can I get a new stock block? Or would a JDM block off of ebay drop right in? Please help me!!!

Thanks

Adam

Personally, I wouldn't just drop any used engine straight into my car... too many unknowns.

Yes a JDM is a possibility or you may be able to locate one either locally or in the "for sale" section of the various Supra sites.

Are you certain the damage is irreparable or do you just not have the time for a rebuild?

Actually, I have all the time in the world for a rebuild and would love to do the work myself aside from the machine work. The car has been sitting for almost a year now and ive decided to keep it if I can get it going again without dumping a ton of cash into it. Without tearing the entire longblock apart, i'm fairly certain the block is trashed. What would you suggest?

Do JDM's drop right in?

^ you need to remove all of your old emissions stuff from your old motor because the JDM motors dont have that stuff and you need your old throttle body and t-stat housing with the sensors.

I had paid $990.00 for my JDM motor and im pretty happ with it even though most likely you will have to change the HG because I did not even put 41 miles on it and the motor failed on me but the motor itself had very low miles and looks like new.

Here are some pics of it

Toyota sells these blocks for $2,500.00

Stay away from jdm and ebay engines, because like playa said those engines come stock needing a rebuild. You can get a fine engine that way..., they just don't plug and play.

How do you know your block is thrashed or what makes you think that??

Let me rephrase. What is wrong with your engine?

Supra2NR 07-08-2007 02:42 AM

I don't know how your gonna do this without dropping a sum of bread in the build

Unless u get lucky and a friend of yours sells you a complete running gte engine from a rear-ended car, for 7-8 hundred bucks(maybe cheaper, hope it is)

If you doing the work urself it will be all worthit, and cheaper

Thanks for the replies guys.

The car has sat for almost 2 years now. When I last drove it, I was simply cruising on the highway @ ~70mph and the car just died on me. Had it towed to a local mechanic and he "claimed" a piston was shattered. Now, I have no first-hand knowledge that this is what happened, like i said the car has sat for a long time now. I should really peek into the plug holes and see whats up. I live in Nashville and the car is in Atlanta so the next chance I have is this coming weekend. Ive got the time and experience to do the work myself, just trying to find the best way to get a decent running engine in there. JDM's are sketchy buys huh? Is this always true? I suppose looking into the block is the first thing I should do, however, if its simply a BHG I would be very happy.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Adam
