Does my gas gauge work?

i put 7 gallons in, and the pump said it was full, i think, because it wouldnt pump any more gas, it would go for 1/2 a second, and then click stop. but when i turned the car on, the needle only went up a little past half way i think, maybe 3/4.
but i drove 160 miles or so, and now the needle is down to the second smallest dash mark. im nervous about driving anywhere cause i dont wanna get stranded.
any suggestions?

Get more gas.

Sorry couldn't resist it.

Seriously though. You May have a stuck float.

:-P
can i fix it myself?

Yes but it's a p.i.t.a. .

You have to find the drain plug on the tank and drain it.
Then you can drop the tank.
You have to remove the fuel pump from the tank.
You have to open the gas cap. You have to losen it so it can drop the spout from the fill up location.

You have two bands. With 2 guide pins and cotter pins in the end.
Drop those bands. But before that get a jack with a nice 2 x4 ond apply pressure. Then drop the bands. Then you can lower the jack and get up into the back and remove a few lines.

You have to undo some wiring inside the trunk. A circular cap on the passenger side. Remove it and undo the connectors. Before you even mess with the tank. Sorry but you'll get it when you see what I'm saying.

Once you dis-connect the fuel lines going up under the body. You can drop the tank and they are smaller bolts like 8.mm I think.

When the tank is out open all the caps on the top and pull the float. You may as well wire in the walbro while you do this as well. Replace the float.
Get it from the dealer.

Reverse all of that once you figure the order out. I hope this helps.

where do i drain the gas into?

Bman86.5 06-22-2007 03:05 AM

hey an easy way is to just find the miles u can drive by the gas in the tank (fill the tank so there is 18 gallons) and then times that by the mpg u have been geting (around 20) then just go on the number u come up with it is easy and actually allows makes u aware of ur fuel efficently which can hit u into any problems
