Hi,

I would like some advice please. I have owned three 1990 MkIIIs, two turbos and one na, all were automatic. I have noticed that when slowing to approximately walking pace and then accelerating the engine revs briefly to about 2500rpm as if out of gear, then the transmission changes up and all returns to normal. My question is, is this normal behaviour or do i have a tranmission problem?? The reason i ask is that all three cars i have owned have all done this, none of them has showed any other signs of transmission wear or burnt fluid etc.

Any advise on this would be appreciated :) ,
TIA,
Adrian..

Well Adrian ;)
i think you answered your own question really hehe

mine does this as well.. it sorta drops into neutral while coasting but as soon as you put the pedal to the metal again she gets in gear and goes
my opinion.. if all three of yours did this... i would say it's normal.. mine does it too...

signs of a wearing transmission can be the delay from going from Park to Drive or Park to Reverse

max limit from Park to Drive is 1.5 seconds
max limit from Park to Reverse is 1.2 seconds

just check your trannie fluid and make sure she's still nice and red... change it every 2nd oil change and i think it's 20,000kms or whatever is recommended by your local parts dealer for your transmission filter and you'll have a happy transmission for a long time :)

so tell me why you've owned so many mk3's hehe... got any pics

Thanks for such a quick reply suprra_girl. I was wondering after owning three all the same, but both my turbos were roughly the same milage (70,000) and the na is 110,000 so maybe the wear was similar. I am glad that yours does the same, well maybe not glad...i should say relieved

I really like these cars that is why i have had three (had a MA61 before that) I bought a 1990 MA70 turbo in 1995, then i emigrated to the US and bought a 1990 MA71 turbo over there, now i'm back in the UK :( (luckly i kept my UK 90 turbo) and now run a rather rough 1990 na for the winter cuz i never drive my lovelly pristine turbo on the salty winter roads. Had to rebuild the heads on both turbo cars and had to put a new short motor in my UK turbo cuz the previous owner had got it so hot when the HG blew that it warped the block!
Don't have any pics, but if anyone is interested i'll take some..

Adrian..
