Greetings.
I have a '91 Supra turbo with a 5 speed manual. Car has been bulletproof until recently. Has 78k miles on it and this past week the orange check engine light has been coming on intermittently. Car is box-stock down to the stereo, aside from a K&N air filter. any sugestions on where to start looking for trouble?

you can go to your local auto parts store, and get a little module that will hook into your diagnostic connector, and it will start flashing your engine code, it will flash so many times, then pause and then flash so many times again, you wanna count each set of flashes. like if it flashes twice, then pauses then flashes 5 times, then that would be code 25, and you will then be able to look up that code in the book that should come with the module. Or you can find out how to pull codes manually using a jumper wire, this will also make your check engine light flash (displaying your code). The module isn't that expensive and something you can use over and over again, plus you'll get the book with the codes in it. If you opt to do the manual code pulling, and can't find out what the code means, let me know i think i have a book at home.

Paid $40 for a jumper and a code book but I got the answer:
22: Bad water temperature sensor and/or switch(s).

now depending on how much the sensor is, you can either test it, and see if that actuallly is the problem, or you can just replace it.

there are 2 small aux fans on the drivers side that were not connected, so I connected them, problem not solved. turned on the AC and the fans run, so not sure it's the switch. teperature gauge works, looks like there is more than one sensor. have a Haynes ordered so I can start diagnosis.
Champion lists a sending unit for $21 but my local nap seems to think its a sensor for the computer which controls the fan and it is considerably more than the sending unit. so car is sitting in my driveway while I drive my gutless EESOOZOO.

anyone ever hear what sounds like water running in the glovebox? its the damdest thing.

could just be air in your cooling system, also you might want to check for signs of a blown head gasket, loosing coolant, oil coolant mix, blowing white smoke after car warms up.

i'd place a bet on the sensor. they're more likely to go out.
