Sr20det Swap Into Supra?? Anyone Done This?

Today a good friend gave me a 1989 supra that needs a motor. I myself am a 240sx player so I've got an built SR20DET motor with approx 405hp. Has any one attempted this install? Or even heard of someone trying this? Am I crazy? I'm gonna do it either way I was just trying to get a little advice thats all. Can anyone help me?

You might run into some positioning problems seeing as the SR20 is a lot shorter than the motor that was in it. I am sure it has been done I think the guy that did that V12 in the mark 4 had also done a SR20 in a mark 4 I cant remember. I would look at if you are going to bastardize the car though measurments on the mounts because I am gonna bet you that you will have to make some sort of adapter that carrys the motor further back to sit in the proper position. You would prolly be better off just finding a old 240sx like a early 90s one and dropping it in a lot less work from my standpoint. Pluss the Supra motors like the 7MGTE, 1JZGTE, 1GGTE, and the 2JZGTE are capable of a ton more horsepower and performance than the SR20 you are wanting to put in. Just look at the numbers KWNate is turning with his 7MGTE nuff said.

Not to mention it's a nissan engine.

Fabricate motor mounts, redo the wiring harness on the dash side to be able to hook it up to the dash connectors, fabricate a tranny mount, and fabricate a driveshaft.

hmm

Couldnt be any harder than the sr20det conversion I am doing on my MGB...

Everything in this car is custom...rear end...motor mounts...trans crossmember...turbo manifold...down pipe...harness...

I guess it all depends on what you want to do. The original B series engine would not make the hp the sr20det could period. If I was you I would buy one of these fully built partouts you see laying around. It would be a lot cheaper in the long run

a toyota should have a toyota engine and a nissan should have a nissan engine. to me dropping in a sr20 into a toyota is like being a sellout. sr20's are good and all but not in a toyota, i have nothing against nissan i like silvias and sileighties too but i love my supra and i rather just drop a M or JZ engine in it. just my opinion

Jjona5 06-12-2007 10:51 PM

Yeah I am going 2jz myself...but its his choice to make...

Your engine pic is like a nightmare. Lose wires all over the damn place and you think you want to do it to a supra. Does your daddy own a salvage yard or something???

You clearly have some knowhow. SO focus it and stop frankensteining shit together.

Jjona5 06-13-2007 04:56 PM

Heh my daddy owns less than I do. No that was just the initial physical instal after we fabbed the new front crossmember, transmission crossmember, and engine mounts. I was going back and forth between Iraq and this was right before we started packing up. Let me break it down like this. My first mgb which I restored to immaculate ORIGINAL condition had about 80hp with high compression pistons and a ported head. This engine gets 200hp stock and is quite light and will prob get much better gas mileage. I really do not see the harm. Either way it really doesnt matter because its my car.

If you notice in the pictures there is no radiator, no intercooler, no belts, NO SR20 WIRING Harness. Give it a few more months and then leave some douche bag remark...I'm sure you will be in the minority.

I can't believe sum pple are actually encouraging this swap

Blasphemers!
For the record
Mazdas, nissan, hondas, scions, and almost everybody else shoves supra engine in their car
Not the other way around

Jjona5 06-13-2007 07:50 PM

Like I said if it was my i would do a 7mgte or 2jz swap...but the dude may have the parts laying around and have some wild hair. its all up to choice...

supramacist 06-14-2007 04:45 PM

He must be in the army because I know for a fact they didn't tech us that kind of shit in the Marine Corp. .

Jjona5 06-14-2007 04:51 PM

Marine corps are all about cleaning stuff all the time...I suppose thats why the wires bothered you. DOD Civilian here

supramacist 06-14-2007 04:58 PM

LOL it might be. I'm naturally anal anyway. I think the guy has a good looking engine. It's just like races man. They shouldn't intermingle.

Jjona5 06-14-2007 07:05 PM

Yeah my best bud over there was a marine...he always talked about having to clean equipment all the time that didnt even work...but it was damned clean.

supramacist 06-14-2007 08:19 PM

See man it's nothing personal.

It's all about the wheels. Alot of us spend countless hours rebuilding this and re-tweaking that. It's never going to come across good in toyota forum with someone putting a nissan engine into it. LOL

IMO, Blasphemy. But it's your ride and you should do whatever makes your boat float.

It's just going to be difficult to get the support you may be seeking in a specified forum. Be it nissan or toyota.

Again these are just opinions and there is a reason they are free.
