Sensor on the Therm. Housing - What is it?
Hi, what is this sensor called and is my sensor broken? I found a vacume line sitting around that had a pice of plastic in it that looked like it once connected to it. Thanks.

i believe its the vsv, that has to do with emissions. my vac line is blocked off. then again so if my egr. If you dont care about emissions and you arent noticing a difference in performance than id say cap off the vac line and let it be.

Well the vac line was running to something else, it looked like it was broke off of the sensor on the therm. housing, so I was wondering if I should replace it, because to me a vac leake is no good, no matter what its for. Thanks.

That sensor is the BVSV, shown in the TSRM. Check out this link (turbo model) or this link (N/A model) for vacuum line diagram showing you what lines connect to them. I just finished fixing a vacuum leak in my 87 N/A; it hasn't been fun. One of my problems happened to be that I had the two vacuum lines mixed up at the BVSV on the thermostat housing... oops
*Line L=300 on both diagrams connects to the purge port on the charcoal canister |
Go to your local Toyota dealer and order a new Bimetallic Vacuum Switching Valve (BVSV).

**NEW QUESTION** Ok, from the diagram btwilson86 gave me for the NA model the "L=300" line is connecting on the bottom, and my "L=300" was connected to the top and it broke off, does it really matter that one goes on top or bottom? Thanks. |
