I am about ready to replace the head gasket if the bills dont get in the way I read alot of the forums and every says to buy a metal head gasket I found a hks head gasket it tells on the site bead metal head gasket for 7mgte-bead-1.2mm thick 86 bore is this a good buy it is $99, and will it last for just normal driving, and maybe some speed sometimes and will it fit the 7mge non turbo motor if it is for the turbo model

you're wasting your money
get a stock head gasket and use Arp bolts

sock em down to around 75-80lbs

Alright, You have the HKS beaded MHG. It's a good gasket. Should work well for you. There's this thing in this forum where everyone debates the mhg's.

I think because most people don't deck the block and only plain the head, is the basis of the argument, because in theory with out doing the block and the head, the surface isn't flat enough for an MHG.

I lapped my block, I did it in the car even. Some would say that is wrong.
But to the point. I had the head done completely. I used an HKS 2.mm stopper mhg. So atleast I'll never be accused of cutting corners or skimping on parts.

I almost went beaded and wanted to spend more money than I needed too.

I'm not done with my build just yet thanks to some of my vendors not working over the holiday. I'm down to a few pipes and som vac lines. Oil change then fire.

EDIT: I used arp studs. Be e a utifull.

i called a machine shop today and they said all i have to do is the head because the block is cast iron. my cousin says this also who has a lot of experiance with import tunning

you can't tell if the block needs work until you remove the head
if the corrosion is bad and has damaged the block you would need to resurface the block.

there isn't much point to using a metal head gasket on a non turbo engine .

the whole point of perfectly smooth and a using the metal head gasket is to handle the extreme boost planned for a seriously modded turbo supra

i know all about lapping the block
been there ,done that , got the T shirt

I have ARP studs. I thought a good idea would be to install studs first then gently lower the head on. Turns out this doesn't work as the heater union hits the firewall lip. I don't think I can remove the union then fit it back on later as the big 32mm socket wont fit. Now the dilema is can I install these studs after I seat the head...not much room to hand tighten the studs well. How did you do it???
