Error Codes 14 & 21
Hello guys, i am getting error codes 14 and 21 when i do the diagnosis, i read what they meant, but having a hard time understanding the problem to fix.
Mr nickeleye had replied to my last posting saying "intake" but unfortunately i am still not competant enough about engine performance as i would like to be to understand what to fix, any info helps guys, thanks. |
hey you guys, doing some work finally on my car in the next couple days, and any info will help. Thanks.
21 is your Oxygen sensor. Replace it.
14 is your igniter. You can check it with a multimeter, but it probably is bad if its throwing a code. Good luck. |
thanks man, i have a multimeter so i will check that tomorrow. And the o2 sensor huh. i guess i'll have to pick one of them up.
hey guys im speaking with a live rep on a parts site and she wants to know if i want front of cat O2 sensor or what? i really dont know. im assuming front of cat.. any info?
i found a diagram in the TSRM which labels the O2 sensor in front of the (TWC) three way catalyst. Does that mean front of cat.. hmm.
The O2 sensor is in front of the cat. And I have a code 14 right now. I'm going to check the ignitor and the coil pack tomorrow to see which is bad.
A couple of helpful links.... How to check ignition coil How to check ignitor |
Only 1988 and later California models have a sub-oxygen sensor. And even if you did have one and it was throwing a code, it would be code 27.
The O2 you want is in front of the cat. The one that you don't have unless yours is an 88 cali model, the sub O2 sensor, is AFTER the cat. |
thanks, so before cat is what i figured but the online help kinda threw that one at me, and let me know how your code 14 goes, thanks.
so i replaced my O2 sensor let it run for a bit then tested again, still getting error codes, so i disconected battery terminals then reconnected, did diagnosis and got all blinks... so both codes went away after i did the reset...
So you cleared the codes and got 4 blinks a second. Thats good, it means everything is working.
Now drive it 100 miles or so and recheck the codes. |
will do, going to drive it to family's this weekend will check after i get there, it's a lil over 100 miles. strange that the other code went away to though.
correct you are, the diagnosis gave a few options to check, when i pulled my O2 sensor off the flange thing was broken, metal thing around inner tip missing i think and for regular maintenance arent we supposed to replace them every 30k was it? im not sure, but now it's new and wont have to worry about it for a while. but your right it could be something else, im going to run the diagnosis again after a bit of driving and see what i get.. plus im always trying to maintain my car so i hope i catch any other things.
hehe well it looks like a couple of people are getting that damn code 14, maby i should reset mine it'll probably go away, but then come back.
yeah i would try that first... but here is a look at what my O2 was like...
