What exhaust would be better
right now im just looking to get my car legal, and i was wonder correct me if im wrong but the stock exhuast pipe is 2.5" but i was wondering what would be better a muffler with a 2.5" inlet and a 3" outlet or like a 3.5 or 4" outlet?
and what brands would be best performance wise the car is na |
Nickleye used a 4" muffler. I trust him :bigthumb:

Yea, Im not sure about a muffler adding a whole lot of performance. Also, I know the turbo car has a 2.5" exhaust, but I think the N/A might be smaller. He says 2.5" all the way back, so I'd think a muffler tip I would stay at 2.5" If you go any bigger, you might lose some torque. But hopefully nickleye or someone else will chime in and give their expertise.

its 2.5 inches with na and turbo stock with my na i used a powertech muffler i think they sound the best. i currently have one for my turbo. i bought a 3 in downpipe and had a muffler place put 3 in pipe after my test pipe to the muffler. i got both from cbwheels.com they are out of miami.

so justin...you only have one cat on your car right now? is that legal? noones answering my other thread, and im getting the car in 2 days...i need to know :-X i was thinking about getting all cooleeze stuff (downpipe, and the cat back on suprasport) plus a high flow cat to put in the cat back. one high flow cat, im assuming thats legal in NY state...someone at advanced auto parts said it would be.
if the car is n/a...then id lean towards the smaller of the two mufflers, just because of torque in the lower bands being present with that kind of muffler. i dont think it would be a whole lot though...so its up to you. |
well sidewinder i have no cats on my car at all. i'm not worrying about my car being legal and having a cop look under my car to see. cuz in michigan i don't think they are smart enough to realize that there isn't a cat. but anyway i'm sure just one hi flow cat will be legal. i went the cheap way and i am happy with what i have. personally i don't see the purpose of buying a catback system when its like 500 bucks. total for me the downpipe was $100 and the test pipe was $50 or so and the 3in pipe after that was $70 and $50 for the muffler.

i believe ive read somewhre that you can put a 3" exhaust on an n/a, but you dont want any larger than that or you start hurting your performance. and thinking back on what ive read about most other peopls cars, more people stick with a 2.5" rather than go bigger. but thats just on the n/a. on another note, i only have one cat on my car and it passes emission here in atlanta. i think as long as they look under your car and see a cat youll be fine.

ok. yeah, thats what my friend said who works at advanced auto parts...since its so old they dont check emissions really, they jsut check for a cat. thats good in my case, i want free flowing =P
georgia and new york arent that different i think...altho NY is a little stricter. thanks for the info! |
i smogged my car with the stock exhuast and stock cat and it passed fine..buh now i use a 3inch pipe and a 3inch apexi muffer..still using the stock exhuast and downpipe...)yeah i nkow) waiting got two tie rod coming in and tryina fix some oil leak...and i live in california..the exhuast is actually pretty quiet too and i get no stare at all from cops just a glance once in awhile buh dats it
