Supra respray

I have taken the week off work to respray my car. It didn't really need it but i saw a bit of rust comming up on the left hand door and thought, while i'm there, let's give it the full service. I am 3 days into the job. Damn there is alot of parts to these cars. No wonder they are so heavy... There is suprisingly very little rust for a nearly 21 year old car. A few small bits starting off but nothing even close to bad. Thought i'd post a couple of pics of my progress.

Gee she is shiney. wont really see from the pics yet but looks awesome. You can't see much in the workshop but if you take any of the parts outside they look magic. has silver, gold, blue and purple in the pearl. the body looks super straight. i no longer have to look at those little dings and scratches that have annoyed me for nearly 8 years. It didn't have many, but you know theyre there.. Decided to not put the old trimms back on. They wont look right with the new paint. Lookin at some after market options. When it's done, i'll take some pics with a proper camera instead of with my crappy phone camera.
No fingers left from blocking those panels down...

Your not doing this ourself are you? It looks really good!

SCRAMJET 02-25-2007 08:15 AM

I'm doing most of the work myself. I have am doing it at a friends panel shop and they have made sure that it's getting the right treatment. The actual painting has been left to the experts but i have put in about 75 hours in the last week doing all the prep work. I'm not doing it up to sell it but to keep it so there has been no corners cut.

gj i had to sand down the top half of my car and primer it my self its ready to get paint i just dont have the money to get it done yet

Yeah, it's a lot of work if you are gonna do it properly. We sprayed the final parts today, bumpers, spoiler, mirrors and the small plastic panels by the wheels. That chip proof paint is a pain to get rid of. Every part takes ages to prep propperly. I took nearly 3 hours just blocking down the primer on my front bumper today..

Cool, the car is starting to look like a supra again. Had a week off to do the job but took an extra day off today to get stuff done. Back to work tomorrow.... Nearly done though. The car is buffed up. Spent all day putting it back together. Still got to sort out the mouldings and put on heaps more bits. No wonder they are so heavy.. so many parts. Got the front reassembled, the bumpers, the doors and most of the rear and tailgate. Sort the targa trims out and do something with mouldings tommorrow after work. Lookin good though!
