please help

i called about a 89 supra na today with auto tranny.the person said everything was great on the car and the only thing it needs is a solenoid resister and it costs $250. now for the stupid question. what is a solenoid resister and what does it do? please help or shed some light on this please.its on heck of a deal if they are not blowing smoke up my butt. also if the part does exist does it effect it starting or not?
thanks

The solenoid resistor is the aluminum heat sink looking thing directly to the right of the driver side strut mount (as you are looking under the hood from the front bumper). The connector is round and yellow.

I know it does NOT have any control over the starter for a fact, since you are required to disconnect it for a compression test.

What it DOES do is control the fuel injectors.

The only way to test the solenoid resister is by measuring the voltage of 3 of the terminals of the 4 terminal connector. There should be between 10-14 volts with the ignition switch in the on position.

i have no idea. all i know is i called about a 89 na supra yesturday and they said the ONLY thing wrong with it was that it needed a solenoid resistor.but i cant find that part on a NA car.i can only find it on a turbo but they swear up and down its not a turbo and that is the part needed acording to the mechanic.

In any case I'd have to say there's a red flag there. When I was looking for my supra I seen a LOT of "This car would run great if you just fix this one part." If the car is selling for half it's value because of one simple part ,it's pretty hard to belive he wouldn't fix it and sell it for a lot more.I hate to piss in your cherrios ,but you might be better off passing on this one.Just my 2 cents.

thats why im looking into it.and its a older lady selling it trying to pay her rent cause she got fired from her job.(so she says) i might still take a trip up and see it its only 40 min from here. she says she has alot of reciets of the work that has been done to it and what not.if all else fails i got a running 7m na in my beat up 86.5 supra that was just put in the body is a diff story though.

Solenoid resister is on both N/A and turbo models.
