1JZGTE Horsepower potential?

I know the 2JZGTTE is capable of a good 1k horsepower when it's all modded out, but what kind of HP output can you get with a 1JZ or a 1.5JZ setup (1.5 = 1JZ w/2JZ rear end if I'm not mistaken)?

kwnate 01-07-2007 06:58 PM

1.5 JZ is a 2j bottom end with a 1jz Head. You can expect as much HP as your wallet can handle.

Supra2NR 01-07-2007 07:18 PM

all engines can gain lots of power

I mean cmon pple gotta figure out right now
If you have money, and I mean all the money that will be necesarry
Any engine can be a 1000hp monster
U can probly get a geo engine to do 1000hp
With enuff money,

The question should be which one is gonna be cost effective

Sure with about 100k the 2jz will be a 800hp monter capable of 9 sec. Passes

And sure the 1jz can do this too,
It can be a 800hp monster doing 9 sec. Passes
but the question is, which one is gonna be easier and cheaper to achive?

My opinion is to already start with a good powerplant, its a good jumpstart to ur project that you're gonna be thanking yourself later on in the build

I know we got turbos, but there still is no replacement for displacement when it comes to maxed out engines, so find an engine with a big displacement already
At least a 3.0

You don't wanna fully build an engine and find out later on that it can only handle this much, until you do sum really pricey shit

So do a lot of reasearch b4 devoting funds into a project

Ungoliant 01-08-2007 10:25 PM

Well I don't have my project Supra just yet, but I will soon...I'm doing my research beforehand before I start dropping cash on the car. The one I'm looking at has a hole in the engine block and needs minor body/interior work, so I'm gonna pump out an engine swap right off the bat.

Basically what I'm asking is what's the easiest (cost-wise, skill-required-for-engine-wise, etc.) engine to drop in and mod in a Supra out of the 7MGTE, 1JZ, and 2JZ?

I want it to be pretty damn fast, but I don't want it to be just a track monster that's pointless to drive on the street, so I'm trying to figure what my HP goal is going to be as well.

Supra2NR 01-08-2007 10:47 PM

Well I'll tell you what I should have done
I realized this after I bought my mk3 right now
I wasn't using my head, cuz I love this car

Buy a mk2 supra and drop either a 7mgte or a 2jzgte on it
The car is lighter than mk3s and it looks like it can handle better
Definitely won't be jus a track monster
But can also be a street terror, or you know what, don't do it on the streets
Jus, it can be a daily driver too

Ungoliant 01-08-2007 10:51 PM

Well the reason I want to make it a street monster is because none of these jackasses down here have shit and act like hardasses with the little Civic hatchbacks and stock camaros/mustangs with straight pipes they have.

I know like, maybe a total of about 10-20 out of the few hundred tuners I've seen around, actually raced, or talked to around here actually have any decent amount of power.

And what kind of work do I have to do to a 2nd gen Supra to get a 2JZ or 7MGTE in there? Preferrably I'd rather go the 2JZ...From what I've read (And read I have) I think I really like the 2JZ alot more than the 7M, but if it proves much less of a financial headache to get a 7M in there, I might just do that.

kwnate 01-09-2007 03:32 AM

Enjoy your 7m, I do.

about the same amount of work included in putting a 2jz in an mk3
but with the mk2 you get the benefit of lighter car to start with

and with that said, i think you will probly have the fastest car in yor town

i do too

So a 1.5JZ setup in a MKII I think would be pretty badass.

All I'm really going to be doing with the car is making it look nice, nothing crazy, and mostly engine work. Restore the body/interior, then just pump everything else into the engine. Make it somewhat of a sleeper...

Well, with a MKII it'd technically be a sleeper.

What kind of Horsepower have people gotten out of a 7MGTE?

Ungoliant 01-11-2007 09:48 PM

Also, what all work is required to put a 2JZ in a MKIII Supra?

Supra2NR 01-12-2007 07:26 PM

I think it was kwnate
That has 636rwhp
On his 7m or was it a 1jz supra?
Try looking around for pples dyno sheets
I know the 7m can handle 500+ on stock internals

XTREMESUPRA 01-12-2007 08:08 PM

The 1j Can Handle 600 On Stock Internals

Ungoliant 01-12-2007 09:10 PM

What do you mean by stock internals? Pistons, etc?

XTREMESUPRA 01-12-2007 09:24 PM

Yes Pistons And Rods And Head The Only Thing That Can Stop U From Hitting 600 Are The Cams And That I Am Not Sure Of A 100% But I No That They Can Hold 600

kwnate 01-13-2007 05:36 PM

667rwhp 7m on a built bottom end @27psi, it will easily pass the 700 mark with 264 cams and an etra 3 pounds of boost. A friend of mine has a bigger turbo and should be around 760 on boost, 850 with nitrous. Both of our cars have well over 35k in mods. Its not a cheap deal if you want it to last.

With the jz motors you don't need to build the bottom end as long as its in good shape, but that only saves you around $4,000, that cost will be offset with the need for a 2j motor, wiring, bellhousing. Then you can start to mod your turbo setup, intercooler, fuel system, tuning device. $$$$$$$$

Good luck with your choice

Supra2NR 01-14-2007 01:06 AM

This guy is gonna hav to sleep on this
Cuz his decision is gonna decide, dictate
How much money he's going to spend in the next year or so

drmmr15 01-14-2007 02:20 AM

Wow. 35k is a big investment. Your car looks flippin' sweet though :werd: I'd say, stick with the ol' 7m. Putting one of those in a MKII and building it up would make for a VERY fast vehicle.

Arleymonsta 08-06-2014 09:28 AM

1jz

So I got this 1990 toyota supra with a 1jzgte. I don't got the money to fix it and if I did I wouldn't know what to do first. I love this project but my knowledge for cars is minimal I need to let it go.. I'll negotiate a good deal I want this supra to be good hands.
