how fast are 1989 mk3 turbos

my dad has a 1989 mk3 supra turbo and i was just wondering how fast it will go. i think its mostly stock but i could be wrong it had a rebuild on it at 180k and it has 220k now has a new [stock] turbo and its a 5 speed. what kinda hp does it have and how fast can it go on top end?? thanks [ooh btw we had it about 140 once then the intercoolersensor or something broke lol] i just gotta know where it ends

kwnate 12-27-2006 02:12 AM

232hp stock, 145-150mph stock.

sbm713 12-27-2006 02:17 AM

yea i figured that but i was talking to this guy in the military his name is mike and he has a mk3 with a 1jz swap and i was talking to him and told him about the 140 in 4th gear and he was like no it couldnt be that fast but then he seen it and the first thing he said was someone had put a different bumper on it and probably modded it so he drove it a little and said that it was fast for a 7mgte. but his car is awsome lol how hard is a 1jz swap then where can i find a 2jz head?? lol

j3pz 12-27-2006 03:21 AM

as the saying goes "if you have to ask how hard it is, then its too hard"

it doesnt sound like you have too much mechanical experience. i would suggest stop worrying about a 1.5jz swap and look at getting some wrench time... thats just my .02 though...

sbm713 12-27-2006 03:25 AM

i dont mess with imports im more of an american guy i like mustangs and camaros there is nothing like the rumble or a 454 big block but i was just wondering because dads car is fast as heck on top end faster than my little 4.6 mustang GT convertible

burton51m 12-27-2006 05:13 AM

ya its probably 10 years newer too

sbm713 12-27-2006 11:48 PM

ya my mustang is an automatic 2003 gt convertible and it is slow i hit 137 one time in it i hate automatics but ooh well i didnt have a choice dad got it for me i am only 16. i told him to let me drive his supra for a while and he said i would kill myself in it. ooh well lol it was worth a shot

j3pz 12-28-2006 12:42 AM

lol offer a trade

sbm713 12-28-2006 02:49 AM

nah i like the stang just wish it had boost haha. I dont really want a supra well unless its the 1993-1998 with twinturbo's. I am trying to find an LS1 camaro with a 6 speed like i said im not into imports that much they are fun dont get me wrong but i love the sound of a V8. I have thought about getting a supra like dads but they are getting more expensive but if i could get a deal like his i would take it he paid 1500 for his.

If you're not into imports and you like domestics, then what in the hell are you doing on a Supra forum?

sbm713 12-28-2006 04:07 AM

i have a supra sitting in my garage its not mine but it is still there thats why i am here i like imports but i like domestics better thats all but supras are cool i just like v8's better

Monkey 12-28-2006 04:11 AM

I still don't see why you're here. Just because a Supra is in your garage, and it's not yours. If you're interested in turboing your mustang, try to find a mustang forum that has some info on that. There'll be guys there that have already done it.

sbm713 12-28-2006 04:16 AM

nah dude i dont want to i just came here to ask a question about what they topped out at plus my dad doesnt ever get on a computer so this is a good site to get info on for his car, like when he blew the intercooler sensor or something he spent 600 dollars before they acually found the problem at toyota so im here to make sure he dont get ripped off again.

Monkey 12-28-2006 04:19 AM

Ahh, so it's your dad's Supra. I gotcha.

sbm713 12-28-2006 04:21 AM

ya its dads but it is a blast to drive except when it is raining then you get drenched cause the targa leaks but ooh well guess it comes with the territory

Monkey 12-28-2006 04:23 AM

He needs to replace the seals. I need to do the same with my 88 Prelude.

sbm713 12-28-2006 04:24 AM

how much will that crap cost??

Monkey 12-28-2006 04:28 AM

I don't know. Most of the time they're not too expensive, but there are occasions that some parts places will rape you on that stuff, especially the dealership. Check around and get prices. Find which one is the cheapest, and which ones actually have them and can get them. Some places will have a listing for some parts, but can't actually get them. I still haven't figured that one out, yet. I'm a mechanic, and i see that shit all the time. "Well, we have a listing for that part, but we can't actually get it for you." WTF, then why did you tell me that you have a listing for it if you can't actually get it for me??? AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Know what i mean?

sbm713 12-28-2006 04:31 AM

yea tell me about getting raped dad paid toyota something like 3600 dollars for a new wireing harness and new intercooler sensor and a few other parts he said he was about ready to give it to the junkyard when he heard the total haha

Monkey 12-28-2006 04:37 AM

You don't necessarily have to go back to the dealer to get certain parts. A harness, yeah, but some other parts you can get from some parts houses. I wouldn't deal with Afro Zone. ALL of their parts are shit. From the batteries to the starters to the alternators. It's all garbage. If you have Bumper to Bumper parts stores aroud where you live, try those guys. O'Reilly's is okay. I'm not super crazy about them. Advanced is somewhat okay, also. I'm not a big fan of the do it yourself parts places. There's a reason why they sell you parts so cheap. They do buy in bulk, but their parts are extremely cheap. Plus most of the parts they sell came from stuff that was turned in for a core so it's most likely a reman. I hate remans. They're no better off than when they were new. I will always buy new parts. Never remaned.

sbm713 12-28-2006 04:44 AM

we have 3 parts places napa, autozone, and o'reilly's plus we have no good machanic shops up here as dad calls them they are all shade tree mechanics haha. most of them dont know much about domestics and then you hand them a supra they all stand around and scratch their asses lol there were like 4 of them looking at my moms old 300zx when the headlights quit working [they never figured out why they messed up] haha

Monkey 12-28-2006 04:50 AM

That's typical of southern inbred rednecks. I'm a yankee transplant by way of Ohio and Pennsylvania. I moved down here because the weather is nicer year round, and I had to get away from an ex friend who stole money from me. I find it difficult to deal with some of the inbreeders around here, but i manage. I'm the only import driver in my shop of four guys. The owner drives a F-350 power stroke, the exhaust guy drives a four wheel drive Chevy SWB and the main mechanic drives an extended cab 98 Chevy stepside pickup. You can imagine i get some shit for driving a Jap Trap, as my mechanic partner calls them. He seems to think that any domestic can whoop on any import. It's just silly ignorance. I'll let him talk his smack until i get my Eclipse rebuilt or i get ahold of this 87 turbo Supra i've got my eye on.

sbm713 12-28-2006 04:57 AM

hey now im from the south so dont dis us to bad haha we all dont say yee haw and dip copanhagan but i do have an accent like a redneck but thats from growing up down here. but yea i wish we had some good shops maybe a machine shop that could build an engine and then we would be set up, but everyone around here has foxbody mustangs thats why i love to drive daddy's supra haha they wont race me in it lol i have a mustang but its an 03 all stock but thats why i want a camaro so i can whip these mustangs in a 1/4 they wont run the supra to see who is better on top end lol they dont like the thought of going up against a turbo

Monkey 12-28-2006 05:02 AM

I have no problem with southerners. I love southerners. It's the rednecks i can't stand. With their ignorance and inbreeding. You know what i speak of. Some of the areas around where i live is overflowing with them. My shop tends to attract them, as well. It's an exhaust shop, so all these spoiled little redneck high school kids, with trucks that daddy bought them, give them money to go get a set of dual exhaust put on it. It's really sad. They think they're so damn cool, too. What they don't realize is that they wouldn't be shit if mommy and daddy didn't buy them that truck and then give them money to jack it up and put the absolute loudest exhaust possible on it. They're all the same around here.

sbm713 12-28-2006 05:07 AM

hey i guess im what you speak of dad pays for my mustang and paid for the truck i used to have it was a deal we made as long as my grades are above an 85 he would pay for it well he didnt pay for the wheels and tires on the truck or the body lift all that came with it he just paid payments on it he said when i got out of high school i was on mostly on my own he said he would help me as long as i helped myself but as far as the mustang he pays the payments and insurance so does that make me fall into your redneck section??

At least your dad made deals with you to help you with your auto improvements, like agreeing to pay for cars or parts if you keep your grades up. That is very commendable. I'm talking about the self indulgent jackasses who just straight up go out and buy their underserving kids cars and parts. Those idiots aren't teaching their kids shit, except that daddy will buy me what ever i want, so i'm the shit. I hate THOSE assholes. Those are the rednecks i speak of. I can't even beging to count the number of underage KIDS who roll up into my shop with brand spanking new jacked up Chevy and Ford trucks to get dual exhaust systems put on them. I don't understand where these parents have their heads(apparantely in their asses) when they buy cars and shit for their kids without any kind of incentive for them doing so. I guess Forrest Gump was right. "Stupid is as stupid does."
