This Sucks!!

Well friday night i was out crusing around and i was on my way home. I left a stoplight and i heard a high pitch noise, i turned the radio off, then it made a knocking noise. I pushed in the clutch and the motor just died instantly. I tryed to let the clutch out to start it, but it wanted to lock up the rear end. THe motor is gone, wont turn over or nothing. the worse part is that we were just under a 1000 miles on the new motor. and i wasnt even beating on it. just driving home. So we decided today that we are going all out on it. ITS GETTING THE 2JZ. if we can find one. does anyone know were i can get all the instructions on putting a 2jz in a 87 turbo?? or does anyone even know were i can find this motor. i dont care how much it cost me. we want this motor. I think??? lol. Or would we just be better off with a 1jz. or goal is to get something we can find more aftermarket parts for, and be just a little more reliable. Tell you want, nothing like pissing 5,000 dollars down the drain in 10 seconds of driving, ive never felt that pissed. any ways, i appreciate all the help guys, and girls. Merry christmas to all the supra owners!!

..

I feel your pain. I had the same thing happen, except I didnt even get drive it 1000 miles before I had to change motors. I quickly realized I got screwed when the people who supposedly rebuilt my motor were no longer there.

stick with 2jz if possible or go with 7mgte cause it would be easier to install. this forum isnt big on swaps so check some other forums.

Supra2NR 12-25-2006 01:23 AM

big news for chicago supras

effective next month, all cars 1995 and below are exempted from emmisions

so go ahead, and go all out on the swap, screw usdm engines, with thier power robbing egr, and emissions parts

dont even waste your time looking for a usdm 2jz, cuz most of them arent even from a supra, they get it from an aristo, which has diffrent parts, than the 2jz from a supra, jus get a jdm 2jz

ZauggIt1 12-25-2006 06:43 PM

But how hard is it to put a 2jz in this car. its an 87.. Were can i find a 2jz motor???

A usdm 2jz would be ideal. If you get a jdm 2jz you'll most likely find an aristo. I think you might be typing backwards?

just a thought

just a thought. Do you want to go with 2j for the reason that there is very few mk3 2j supras on the road, or for the power potential? I say this for reasons you probably allready know (price of swap on 2j vs same amount of money aplied to a 7mgte). I think the outcome would be greater with the 7m. What is your whp goal with the 2j? for as much money, I think it would be safe to say you could have at least 500 reliable whp on the 7m. Just a thought. If I was going to install a j series motor I would use 1j because it is much more compatible with the mk3.
Good luck.

ZauggIt1 12-27-2006 12:12 AM

well, money isnt an issue here. i dont care if it takes us a year to get it done. i want one of the nices and quickest mk3 around my area. yeah, i know, it wont be the fastest. i just want a bad ass supra. i was guessing around 15,000 just for the motor swap. i can do all the work myself. thats not an issue. but, want i want to know is, do they bolt right in? what all do i have to do for getting it to run? wiring harness? drivetrain, will the 7mgte trans work?? is there enough room in the engine compartment for this motor. and also, i have hard that the 2jz is just a better built motor. i want a motor that can hand a good beating. i wasnt even beating on my 7m when it blew, i was just driving it. I dont want to put a motor back in my car that has been rebuilt twice. Its just not my way. yeah, something failed on the bottom end, but still, i just dont want to put the same block, or even motor back in the car. I WANT A FASTER SUPRA!! FASTER IS ALWAYS BETTER!!! but will it be more realistic with a 1jz? and what exactly is the difference with a usdm and a jdsm motor? thanks again for all the feedback guys!!

ZauggIt1 12-27-2006 12:16 AM

is this a good deal? is it the jdsm or usdm??http://www.jdmenginescorp.com/index....roducts_id=145

ZauggIt1 12-27-2006 12:20 AM

ok, this might sound stupid but, i was looking around and i thought that the 2jz was the only motor with twin turbos, or can u actually get a 1jz with twins?? a website i was looking at says a 1jz comes with 2 turbos???

Supra2NR 12-27-2006 03:46 AM

The 1jz comes with twin turbos
But it has a smaller displacement than the 7m, and u can get bigger power with a single turbo
Sum pplw with 1jz engine even does a single turbo conversion
The 1jz and the 7m are almost identical engines, but the 7m has better aftermarket support
The only downside is the hg problem
Besides that, the 7m is the superior engine to me

skunk 12-27-2006 05:40 AM

it,s all about the bottom end. 15000 on any motor and your going to be seeing some serious power but even then what about suspension, brakes, role cage or at least a hoop. At that point we could say go 7m or go 2j. some times I feel like it's an argument over the lakers or the bulls. If you said how much bang for buck, I would say 7m. Good luck, I would love to see pics of the build. Peace

BTW, I think that is a good deal. Normal shipping could be up to 500 dollars, so thats good
I paid 300 to get a 7m motor with out trans, shiped from texas to oregon.

ZauggIt1 12-27-2006 10:48 PM

ok, so whats the aftermarket like for the 2jz motor?? will the 2jz be better motor overall?? reliable?? and more power?? is it really hard to put a 2jz in a mk3??

Supra2NR 12-28-2006 01:12 AM

A few extra more modifications in the install,
A new ecu I believe
New tranny, and tranny mounts
Probly drive train too

But idk, I haven't did my research on swapping yet, jus the engines alone is a enuff of a puzzle lol

tone loc 12-28-2006 10:11 PM

plenty of aftermarket support because it is a very popular engine. dont even worry bout the hp numbers (there good), and if you take care of it any engine is very realiable.

ZauggIt1 12-30-2006 03:21 AM

ok, so what motor are we talking about then. should we go all out and put the 2jz in it, or just stick with the 7mgte, i want a straight awnser. you guy and girls all know this car and these motors more that i do.

Ungoliant 12-30-2006 01:25 PM

If you're going to go all out, go 2JZ and pump that fucker to 1khp.
